Your opportunity:
As part of the Editorial Services team within Advancement Communications and Marketing, the Senior Writer, Content Marketing will be responsible for developing strong creative concepts for multi-channel communications and marketing campaigns that support fundraising and alumni objectives.
Under the general direction of the Director of Integrated Content, the Senior Writer, Content Marketing will set the highest standards for content marketing copy by crafting emotionally appealing stories and messages that grab attention, inspire and motivate our targeted donor and alumni audiences to act and engage with U of T.
They will be responsible for researching, editing, developing, and producing, Advancement content and other strategic communications, working closely with design and project management teams on the production of these materials from initial concept to final distribution across a variety of platforms and channels such as U of T websites, social media channels, print, direct mail, and events.
Overall, they will play a vital role in fulfilling our commitment to delivering high-quality conceptual, writing services through the Advancement Communications department.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning and developing an integrated multi-channel communications strategy independently- Developing communication plans to support University fundraising campaigns and mission
- Liaising with internal contacts to ensure communications reflect advancement campaign goals
- Advising on communication strategies to engage and attract major donor prospects
- Researching and writing stewardship reports, cultivation material and fundraising proposals
- Writing targeted communications to support fundraising objectives
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Editing content for style and tone
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (communications, journalism, English, etc); or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.- Six to seven years experience in a content marketing environment – agency or internal in-house team.
- Experience in writing and copy-editing; demonstrating that writing is clear, captivating and original.
- Related experience in the area of Advancement communications and an understanding of academic community.
- The successful candidate will have demonstrated, through a portfolio of samples, professional-level writing ability with respect to style, organization and structure, rhetoric, appropriateness to subject,and breadth of subject matter.
- Great storyteller who can help us convey U of T’s incredible impact on society in ways that drive greater interest, engagement and support for our mission.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong command of both short- and long-form copy by providing a portfolio of samples that exemplifies a broad range of expertise across web, video scripts, social media, and advertising content.
- A solid understanding of brand positioning, the creative process, andthe importance of a content marketing strategy.
- Ability to manage time effectively against competing deadlines.
- Strong presentation skills with experience pitching creative ideas succinctly.
- Understanding of SEO (search engine optimization) techniques and optimization of content to be found onlinef Microsoft Office suite (Mac or PC-based) is required. Broad familiarity with web-based research tools for content development is also essential.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 17 - $96,978 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,017. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
