ONE CARE Home & Community Support Services is a community based, charitable, Not-For-Profit health organization providing supportive care to families in Huron and Perth Counties as well as the surrounding area.
We are currently seeking a permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week) Financial Controller. This position is remote with the ability to be on site for onboarding/training.
The Financial Controller reports to the Director, Finance & Business Operations and contributes to the overall success of the organization by effectively managing the financial planning and oversight for the organization as well as strategically positioning the organization to effectively use resources and identify new revenue sources. This role is responsible to utilize their extensive expertise, knowledge and skill to provide guidance to organizational leaders and to key accounting staff. This role also has primary responsibility for several key finance functions of the organization including financial audits, cost analysis, budget management, strategic financial recommendations and variance monitoring and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains current and extensive knowledge of accounting standards and ensures that the organization is meeting requirements. Leads change initiatives bringing fully researched and formed recommendations to the Director for approval.
- Develops, implements and ensures compliance with internal financial and accounting controls, policies and procedures.
- Responsible to ensure appropriate controls are in place for accounting processes and monitoring all activity in the general ledger to identify inconsistencies and errors and to ensure accurate financial information.
- Provides strategic financial advice to leadership and ensure appropriate financial policies are in place for the organization.
- Creates and monitors a period close schedule to ensure all accounting functions are completed in order to ensure fiscal periods are closed and reporting deadlines can be met.
- Monitors and audits all activity in the general ledger to ensure accuracy through reconciliations and audits; and identify variances or inconsistencies, investigating and recommending fully formed action.
- Leads the accounting team through bi-annual audits.
- Prepares all financial reports according to agreements and requirements of funding sources, legislation and all applicable accounting standards, while ensuring that information is meaningful and representative of the needs and performance of the organization.
- Leads the preparation and approval of program level budgets as well as drafting administrative budgets and the overall organizational budget for leadership.
- Prepares accurate forecasts and provides guidance to program leaders to enable year end planning with a focus on a balanced budget.
- Monitors the subsidy program spending, and ensure effective use by ensuring that accurate accounting and projections are maintained
- Determines appropriate action for assisting in client payment options, including creation of client payment plans, monitoring subsidy available and ensuring regular review by program leadership of outstanding accounts.
- Leads the management of capital assets and ensures assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.
- Tracks all expected and received revenues & expenses and ensures accurate recording and amortization.
- Oversees the records and reconciliation of donations and fundraising and ensure compliance with charitable and other requirements.
- Ensures consistent, accurate and thorough documentation of all financial decisions, assumptions and recommendations.
- Leads the monitoring of all legislation relevant to the organization, as well as contractual obligations to ensure that the organization is compliant.
- Initiates and leads cost reduction, efficiency and process improvement initiatives.
- Provides functional back up for Director, Finance & Business Operations
QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/Administration, and recognized accounting designation such as CPA or significant partial completion of a program.
- 7 years of related experience, non-profit and/or health care sector preferred.
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and proof on Insurance.
