Position: Substance Use Counsellor
Location: Sources Peace Arch Resource Center, 882 Maple St, White Rock, BC
Hours: 24 hours/week
We are looking for a Clinical Counsellor to join our Sources Substance Use Services team! This individual must be compassionate, engaging, and resourceful. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to work within our Counselling Services team as well, to increase their hours up to full-time if desired.

Description of position
Reporting to the Program Manager of Substance Use Services, the Substance Use Counsellor is a permanent employee of Sources Community Resources. This position would serve as the primary counsellor on the team to provide counselling to youth, although the caseload would include adult individuals and families. This position may also develop and deliver psychoeducation and substance use prevention and health promotion initiatives.
General Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical services to individuals and families affected by substance use.
- Provides case management and facilitates referrals to appropriate services and resources in accordance with clients’ individual service plan.
- Maintains up-to-date and accurate caseload records according to established case management procedures.
- Develops and delivers substance use education, prevention and health promotion strategies and activities in local school and community settings.
- Connects with other youth services providers in the community to enhance referrals to and collaboration with Sources Substance Use Services
Program Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide services in alignment with principles of Trauma and Resilience Informed Practice, Cultural Safety and Humility, Diversity and Inclusion
- Be able to serve individuals who identify as LGBTQIA2S+
- This position will be strongly but not exclusively focused on working with youth. Capacity to work with ADD, neurodiversity, family dynamics and utilize motivational approaches is essential.
- Participate in team meetings and Sources Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) processes
- Provides harm reduction information and supplies, including Naloxone training.
- Utilize Feedback Informed Treatment and Motivational approaches to effectively engage and meet the needs of clients.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in counselling psychology, Social Work or related discipline
- 2 years of experience in counselling, substance use services or related experience.
- Effectively utilize Office suite including Teams, Word, Outlook and digital client management systems
- Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (Training may be accessed through Sources)
- Criminal Records check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review Program Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and driver's abstract
