Staff of the Regina Open Door Society (RODS) must operate at all times within the mandate of service to provide settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services to enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.
The position's primary responsibility is to assist our newcomer clients in achieving their employment- oriented goals by providing one-on-one employment counselling. In these counselling sessions, you will assess the client employment readiness and will facilitate them in employment search, career planning, developing and enhancing of self-marketing tools, and soft skills required in the Canadian workplace setting. As a program Facilitator, you will develop and deliver the workshop content aimed to equip the clients with knowledge and skills essential for understanding the labor market, building professional networks and developing an in-depth understanding of Canadian workplace culture. This will be done in collaboration with other members of the RODS Employment Services Teams. Based on the client's employment goals, you will also refer them to the other programs conducted in the department. In addition, you will prepare program reports for management and funders.
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Adult Education, Social Services, or other related fields
- Training and experience in employment counselling and instruction including development of employment-related workshops/trainings
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with staff, clients and employers
- Experience and sensitivity in working with newcomers to Canada, including those with limited English language skills
- Demonstrated experience in class room and client management and meeting program goals
- Strong technological skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, Google Classroom, SMART Boards, Databases and online communication platforms)
- Excellent communication, collaboration and organization skills
- Proven accountability, resourcefulness, initiative, and professionalism
- Ability to research, identify and develop content suitable to the learning needs of the clients
- Displaying in-depth knowledge of labor market trends, available training, educational and employment opportunities, job competencies, employer requirements and community resources
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and tight deadlines

Provide one on one employment counselling to newcomers
- Provide one on one employment counselling sessions
- Assess clients' needs for assistance with educational credential evaluations, financial assistance and further training and refer clients to the appropriate services
- Remain current on labor market trends and effective job search techniques
- Collect and disseminate labor market information for clients regarding job openings, skill requirements and other occupational information
- Refer clients to ES workshops and alternate employment programs and events conducted in the department
- Refer clients to other RODS services or external organizations as appropriate
- Enter client data into the database, keep up to date records
- Submit program monthly and quarterly reports to the management team
- Follow-up with clients to track their progress toward achieving employment, employment maintenance and provide further assistance
- Plan, prepare, and deliver classroom-based workshops on a wide variety of employment readiness skills
- Use learner-centered, task-based and outcome-focused classroom instruction taking into
- consideration the Canadian Language Benchmarks appropriate to the level of learners
- Update workshops material as required and develop new course content to keep pace
- up with the changing needs of the labor market and address the learners' needs accordingly
- Monitor and evaluate clients' learning progress
- Perform other position related duties as needed
The annual salary for this position starts at $51,822.27 ($29.53 per hour) at Step 1 of RODS' Professional Category 1. Pay periods are the end of the day on the 15th of the month and the end of each month.
Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (including a one-hour unpaid lunch break) with an EDO every second week.
All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record check prior to on-boarding. There is a cost- shared benefits package and 3% pension contribution available to the employee upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
