Job Description
Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre is looking for an Outreach Counsellor to join their dedicated team that is committed to ending the cycle of sexual abuse & assault by providing specialized intervention, counselling and preventative education to individuals, families and communities in North Region of Alberta.
This role is Full Time Permanent (1.0 FTE) Monday to Friday role that can be primarily remote with travel to service areas required.
The Hub is based in Bonnyville, however the service region for this position will be serving the communities and surrounding areas of St. Paul, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Slave Lake, and Wabasca. Travel to the service areas is a requirement for this position.
Outreach Counsellors work directly with clients to meet these goals:
- Provide individual support for clients including, but not limited to, intake, assessment, case planning, and follow-up
- Assist with referrals to and accessing of appropriate community resources
- Support client towards self-efficacy and personal wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decision-making
- Participate in providing education sessions, information sessions, and display booths to the local communities served
- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors, in order to supplement and enhance client service provision
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Human Services or related field with a minimum of two years directly-related counselling experience (equivalencies may be considered)
- Registered or eligible for registration with appropriate professional association
- Knowledge of community resources and familiarity with Indigenous culture and history within Canada
- Comprehensive knowledge of client-centered interventions, practice methods and professional skills
- Able to travel to assigned service areas
- Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook), and electronic records management system
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An understanding of gender issues, social justice advocacy, diversity and anti-oppressive practice are an asset
- Criminal Records check, Child Intervention Record check, valid Alberta Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle
