The successful candidate will be working out one of the following locations: Brampton, Calgary, Winnipeg or Vancouver (preferred) with a mixture of on and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement is subject to change, based on operational needs.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Database Warehouse Developer to join our dynamic Donor Relations Supply Chain-Testing team.
The Donor Relations Supply Chain-Testing team is responsible for performing testing on donor samples and patient samples, providing national reference testing for antibody identification, genotyping, and HLA matched platelets, in addition to providing QC testing on blood component products.
In this role, you will be designing prototypes and deploying data infrastructures associated with Extract Transform Load (ETL) and analytics processes to prepare data for analytical or operational uses. You will support ETL, cloud analytics and classification algorithm deployment in Azure to integrate data from different sources, to deploy software solutions that will establish optimal technical setup that aligns with Canadian Blood Services regulatory, privacy and digital security framework.
Formula for success
- Leveraging your knowledge and expertise with Azure, you will integrate, transform, and consolidate data from various data systems into structures that are optimal for building analytics solutions, and craft codes that meets Canadian Blood Services’ standards for style, maintainability, and best practices.
- Utilizing your exceptional attention to detail, and analytical skills you will ensure all data pipelines and data repositories are high-performing, efficient, organized, and reliable, by frequently testing and documenting the developed products.
- With your desire for excellence, you will design and develop database, API and UI solutions to store, interact with, query and report on high-throughput molecular-level blood-type data generated at Canadian Blood Services.
- Drawing on your proven ability for design and implementation, you will establish internal databases to store, query, intersect and interact with data from various sources (clinical, genomic, LIS, etc.), as well as build external public reference databases of blood group alleles,,
- With your excellent ability to build solid working relationships, you will work closely with Canadian Blood Service medical, bioinformatics and Information Technology staff to assist in the systematic molecular blood group data review and contribute to publications.
- Leveraging your continuous growth mindset, you will, train clinical staff, be an effective participant in PFx processes for procurement, and openly advise laboratory management on any operational gaps, challenges, and opportunities within scope of practice.
Desired education and skills
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in a computer science or related field is required.
- Certified engineer for cloud-Distributed systems (i.e. Azure, Databricks, PowerBI, etc.) is required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in clinical, or research setting related to laboratory information systems and data management is required; however, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Solid knowledge and professional experience with data processing languages (including SQL and Python, ETL, UI design and data solutions is required.
