FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRES
FULL-TIME (1.0 EFT) PERMANENT POSITION
Wage - $19.37 - $25.23 per hour
Reporting to the Supervisor - Operations, the Family and Community Development Coordinator functions as part of a team, in partnership with community members, to operate the Resource Centre and provide community development and outreach with the goal of enhancing health, safety, social and economic capacity building in the community.
Working with their partner Coordinator, the Coordinator either leads or supports efforts related to community outreach with the intent of establishing a level of trust that enables the community development process to take place, including participation in all activities of the Centre. The Coordinator will coordinate and/or facilitate programming (online and in person) to build capacity of individuals and families within the community and work with the community advisory committees. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for completing routine administrative duties and ensuring the Centre is properly maintained.
Please note that split shifts ,may be part of this work schedule.
**During the school year operating hours for some days may change to 9am to 5pm to accommodate after-school programming.

Key Responsibilities and Activities:
- Perform outreach to and advocacy for community members.
- Plan, coordinate and run community events including shopping and negotiating discounts; setting up, cooking, loading and unloading donations, grocery and supply shopping, general maintenance of centre and cleanup after events..
- Volunteer recruitment, scheduling, training and mentoring.
- Actively participate in program development, application and evaluation.
- Perform in-the-moment mental health support and longer term family and parent follow through via drop-in requests and/or home visits.
- Supervise, evaluate, support and direct the work of Community Helpers.
- Perform related administration including entering information into the database, creating and distributing a newsletter and flyers; creating monthly activity reports; preparing/maintaining monthly financial reports, etc.
Education and Experience
- A university degree in the human services field required, bachelor of social work is preferred.
- A minimum of three years related experience working with children and families in a community setting is required
- Community Development program completion coupled with practical experience is desired
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of community development theories and demonstrated ability to work in a community setting
- Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution
- Commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in alignment with the agency's practices.
- Comfort in working with marginalized, vulnerable populations in an environment that poses an elevated level of risk
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work flexible hours, including up to two evenings per week, as required
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle as travel within the City of Winnipeg is required
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
