Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
- Five or more years in the communications field with progressive movement in senior positions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategy, and develop and implement new programs, procedures, services, and policies.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to provide motivational direction to obtain clearly defined goals.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of marketing, communications, strategic communications planning, public consultation and engagement, emergency communications and media management.
- Ability to diplomatically and effectively liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, copy editing and proofreading skills, and multi-media storytelling experience.
- Ability to learn and integrate new digital platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple projects (from concept through execution), demonstrate effective time management skills and confidence in decision making with a positive attitude while remaining flexible to adapt to unexpected and time-sensitive demands.
- Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and experience with budget preparation and administration.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence with acceptable abstract.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required.
Duties:
Reporting to the General Manager of Strategic Initiatives, the Director will be responsible for leading, managing and directing the Communications & Marketing Division, which includes staff in Digital Communications, Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing and Public Consultation.
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of specific division initiatives and an effective communications strategic plan to foster increased information sharing among stakeholders.
- Act as an advisor providing expert opinion to effectively counsel elected officials and all levels of management and staff on the optimal approach to public messaging.
- Establish and maintain branding guidelines to ensure consistent and effective brand/corporate identity.
- Lead and support the management of change, remaining flexible, diplomatic, and efficient while managing crisis situations as they arise.
- Identify and maintain awareness of emerging industry trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Develop and implement policies relating to customer service, complaints, communications, and other areas identified through needs assessment.
- Provide exceptional leadership that establishes and maintains a highly engaged and effective team.
- Prepare, coordinate, and implement the annual division budget.
- Prepare reports and presentations to Council.
- Other duties as assigned.
Annual salary range: $98,171 to $114,842 (Job Grade 10) 35 hours per week
