At Odyssey House, our vision is to help women and children break free from the cycle of family violence. As a member of our team, you will help to ensure consistent implementation of agency policies and procedures and ensure all staff, residents, and clients are cared for.
Summary of Position
The Director of Education and Engagement will coordinate and manage the Public Education Program, including but not limited to developing partnerships in the community, overseeing high-level and overarching engagement projects, as well as internal and external events. The Director of Education and Engagement is directly responsible for the supervision, training, mentoring, and performance reviews of the Public Education Support Worker and the Marketing and Volunteer Coordinator. The Director will collaborate with the community and staff to ensure best practice implementation and operation of in-house services and programs, and events.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assume the lead responsibility for Public Education and Engagement, including public awareness educational events, fundraising initiatives, and community relations
- Maintain relationships and work with the relevant agencies and service providers for a collaborative approach to family violence
- Monitor documentation and data entry to ensure accuracy of recording in compliance with Funders
- Lead preparation and logistics of various fundraising meetings and events
- Initiate and seek opportunities for current and new donors and grant funding for the organization
- Liaise and maintain effective working relations with community partners and agencies to continue to meet the needs of Odyssey House staff and clients
- Provide high-level organizational information about Public Education programs to schools, agencies, businesses, community groups, and other referral sources as requested
- Co-facilitate presentations and engagement with other partnering agencies – i.e., RCMP, Grande Prairie Public Schools, John Howard Society, PACE, and others as needed
- Supervise the Public Education Program
Qualifications
The successful applicant will possess one or more of the following:
- Post-Secondary Education in a related field or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2 years experience in a management role
- Previous experience with stakeholder engagement, and/or project management support
- Strong relationship building and analytical skills
- Experience planning, organizing, and executing fundraising events
- One-year experience with donor management preferred
- Experience with ‘SUMAC’ Software an asset
Skills and Abilities
The successful applicant will possess the following:
- Ability to plan and organize, implement and evaluate program activities
- Experience in public speaking and group facilitation
- Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Knowledge of the social problems and dynamics of domestic violence and women’s issues
- Knowledge in the area of family violence, intimate partner violence, and domestic violence as it relates to intervention and prevention
- Knowledge in the fields of suicide prevention, addictions, and mental health
