Job Description Job DescriptionREPORTS TO: Head of SchoolPOSITION GROUP: Senior Leadership TeamSTATUS: Full-Time, Year RoundCalgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving nearly 730 students from preschool through to Grade 12. Our students benefit from innovative teaching and learning approaches to address global challenges, and are empowered to take responsibility as open-minded, curious citizens who are prepared for the ever-changing world around them.The Director of Operations is a self-motivated, methodical, and conscientious leader who oversees the operations of the school and manages the core and supports infrastructure of the institution. They will be responsible for facility management and on-site risk management, as well as the transportation, information technology, food services, and facility rentals business units of CFIS. The Director of Operations will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and work closely with the Head of School, the Director of Finance, the Director of Advancement and division principals.Areas of ResponsibilityThe position’s key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:Leading, overseeing and evaluating the business units of the School operations and ensuring appropriate process mapping, planning, organization, leadership, performance management, and accountability.Overseeing all aspects of on-site risk management and health and safety and assisting the CFIS Society’s Board of Directors to meet their responsibilities in these areas.Developing, implementing, and managing relevant administrative procedures to ensure code-regulatory compliance.Developing and maintaining emergency response plans and related training of personnel and ensure procedures and systems for campus security.Representing the School in its relations with contractors, stakeholders, municipal, provincial and federal agencies, organizations and accrediting bodies in relation to assigned areas of responsibility.Developing, implementing and managing the processes for procurement, coordination and monitoring of contractors, products and services.Leading and directing all capital activities including construction, renovations and ongoing maintenance, as well as future large capital projects.Developing, implementing and maintaining procedures to ensure compliance with privacy legislation.Overseeing all technology operations and evaluating them according to established goals.Identifying long-term planning needs and providing a safe and reliable place of work and learning for staff and students.Supervising and directing the school’s facilities and information technology staff.Overseeing ongoing and preventative facility maintenance.Reviewing annual operating budgets for Facilities, Information Technology, Transportation Services, Food Services, and Facility Rentals.Evaluating annual facility service commitments.QualificationsAt least five years of progressively responsible practical/hands-on supervisory experience in facility management.A trades license or diploma/degree in engineering fields, and/or a CEFP (Certified Educational Facility Planner), CFM (Certified Facility Manager), RPA (Real Property Administrator), FMP (Facility Management Professional), or similar recognized education.Demonstrated experience in budgeting, planning, and facility maintenance and operations.Formal training in code-regulatory maintenance and/or risk management would be an asset.Ability to analyze financial and technical data from a variety of sources.Knowledge of, or able and willing to learn, computerized systems related to finances, preventive maintenance, planning, and work tracking.Microsoft Office Suite experience is required.Leadership and team building skills and be able to share information in an open and collaborative manner.Oral and written communicator with well-developed listening skills.High degree of diplomacy, tact, and customer service orientation.Effective facilitation, conflict management and problem-solving skills.Exceptional ability to handle a variety of priorities simultaneously.Thorough understanding of the structure and culture in a private school environment would be an asset.Strong interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and further the common goals of CFIS’s mission, vision, and values.Competent budgeting and financial management skills.Business acumen and ability to contribute at a strategic level.Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to develop leadership capacity in others.Ability to model best practices of exemplary professionalism in dealing with all stakeholders.SalaryCFIS offers a competitive total compensation package including a RSP plan that does not require matching, generous vacation time, and benefits.
