POSITION
Director of Operations, Aerostructures - De Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Aerostructures & MRO, the Director of Operations assumes the accountability for leading a full site manufacturing, or aerostructures facility in the De Havilland Manufacturing/MRO asset cluster (as defined from time to time). The Director of Operations retains full site accountability including functions such as operations, MPC, methods, planning, tooling, as well as dotted line reporting from supporting functions including finance, supply chain, human resources, IT, and others. The Director of Operations acts as direct liaison between the site and the and the Director of Aerostructures & MRO and has primary responsibility for ensuring the execution of of the short-term and mid-term strategies for the site.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE INCLUDE
- Ensure that the business remains aligned to the overall direction and business goals of the Aerostructures/MRO group, and that the appropriate metrics are clearly defined, communicated to, and understood by, the management team and the underlying operational teams
- Ensure the management team utilizes key metrics to measure their business overall and have in place KPIs for each of the critical functional areas within the site itself
- Ensure the manufacturing sites have executable action plans in place to support both long- and short-term business plans in support of the overall organizational goals
- Coordinate activities within the site to ensure efficient inter/intra-site processes, movement of goods, movement of resources, allocation of work and product, and trouble shoot conflicts arising from such processes/movement
- Ensure there is in place a, robust health and safety plan, committees and process to ensure best practice adherence and attitues towards the safety and well being of our employees
- Implement, maintain and execute a comprehensive reporting system ensuring a consistency in reporting metrix and how measures are calculated
- Leads the development of employees and culture by ensuring execution of performance management / development plans; mentor/develop future leaders within the group for succession
- Establish and reinforce positive, respectful, transparent communications and interactions
- Ensure the site remains compliant with all applicable regulations, standards and applicable laws
- Ensure appropriate resourcing is in place to execute the organization’s strategies
- Provide senior executive and shareholder with advice on the financial implications of business activities
- Ensure that the business has thorough but efficient processes for financial forecasting, budgets and reporting
- Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities; makes recommendations on capital expenditures, providing thorough business cases with ROI defined for each request
- Prepare ad hoc, as necessary, and routine reporting for the executive and/or shareholder including financial performance; progress against strategic plans; identification of material risks and mitigation strategies thereon; and others as requested
- Maintains awareness of both external and internal competitive environment, opportunities for expansion, customers, new markets, industry developments, and other relevant market data

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Aerospace / Aviation related degree and/or MBA or equivalent experience in similar role
- 10+ years in progressively responsible aviation / aerospace leadership roles in a multi-organizational context, preferably in an environment of constant change and evolution
- Prior experience in assessing and optimizing manufacturing operations. Experience in green field manufacturing operations an asset
- Prior experience in financial reporting, preferably in a manufacturing environment, is a requirement
- Prior experience in assessing business opportunities and making appropriate recommendations
- Superior planning and analysis ability in complex multi-site manufacturing organization
- Experience in translating complex financial matters into effective communications to boards, advisors, executives and employee groups
