EXTENDED HOURS: Dependent on needs of the program
SALARY: Hourly rate will increase to $29.32 after 12 months, $32.25 after 24 months
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multiservice organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational, and employment services and youth development.
ABOUT THE POSITION Using networking, marketing and negotiation skills, the Job Developer acts as a program liaison reaching out to the employer community to generate employment opportunities in the competitive labour market that match the skills, abilities, and interests of our Employment Services clients while keeping the program on track to meet and exceed Ministry targets.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Establish a network of contacts and maintain an employer database of employers and job leads in order to find suitable placement and employment opportunities for job seekers
- Develop and implement a marketing plan to identify opportunities in the hidden job market
- Collaborate with employment counsellors to identify client skills, abilities, interests and profile, and focus job development strategy accordingly
- Develop and fill job placements according to established Ministry and internal monthly targets
- Negotiate placement duration and subsidy level with employers
- Screen and edit resumes and match candidates with job requirements in conjunction with employment counsellor recommendation
- Maintain accurate case documentation in multiple internal systems (e.g. CaMs-EOIS) and monitor placements, including follow-ups, surveys and outcomes and provide statistical reports as requested
- Evaluate work sites to ensure safety standards and appropriate training conditions
- Assess employers’ eligibility to participate in the program and workplace capacity to provide a positive work experience and workplace training
- Provide employers with administrative support, and assistance with program procedures and guideline including preparation of training agreements, training plans and contracts
- Provide employment counsellors with updates and feedback about client activities and status
- Make presentations to individual employers and business groups and Promote services and candidates to employer community
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree and/or college diploma and related work experience
- Sales and/or marketing experience considered an asset
- Ability to achieve program goals/targets including planning ahead for contingencies and identifying solutions to problems to ensure best results
- Respectful of and responsive to individuals and communities facing social, economic and cultural barriers in society
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, search engines, online communication methods)
- Skilled in developing and presenting audience-geared employment related life skills and career advancement curriculum coupled with strong group facilitation skills
- Knowledge and understanding of labour market trends, coaching and mentoring approaches to support job seekers that are distant from the labour market
