Job Description
Urban Rez Solutions is seeking a Job Developer to provide the necessary support to equip and empower participants of the “Inside-Out Program”, in reintegrating within society and the workforce. We recognize that individuals that have been a part of the criminal justice system experience issues in the labour market that cannot be separated from systemic factors and biases. These participants need access to opportunities that introduce them to novel life paths that earn income and align with their interests, personality traits and skill sets.
SUMMARY
As a Job Developer, you will focus on assisting individuals that are/were incarcerated (at a correctional institution, six-months prior to their release) or on probation/parole. You will be supporting them to identify their pathway to employment. The support will consist of one or more of the following:
● Establish partnerships with employers and relevant community stakeholders;
● Finding employment;
● Develop experiential learning opportunities;
● Establish an apprenticeship opportunity, as it relates to their goals; or
● Job retention support, where it is identified that a participant requires additional coaching and mentoring in order to maintain employment or to make the next step on their career path.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Matching and Placement:
● Assist with matching individuals who are unlikely to succeed in conducting their own job search, with employment opportunities according to their skills and interests.
● Establish relationships with community partners and employers to identify opportunities that support the goals of the participants of the program.
● Negotiate employer relationships on behalf of participants which may include experiential learning opportunities. This will include developing a relevant training plan that supports the needs of the employer/community partner.
● Set up job trials or on the job training for individual participants with employers (this may include volunteer placements).
● Ensure that employers meet all requirements under the Employment Standards Act.
● Conduct at least one employer site visit prior to the placement of the individual to ensure and confirm a suitable and safe work environment.
● Where necessary, provide employers with resources on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety and information on accommodation needs.
● Provide coaching and support during the placement including identifying and resolving workplace issues that may affect participant success both during and after the placement.
● Orient participants to the workplace rules and expectations of employers.
Job Retention
The Job Developer will perform the following tasks for participants who may need enhanced support to ensure the participant can maintain employment:
● Identify participants that may be in need for additional support during a placement. (e.g., financial assistance)
● Develop support plans with the participant, mentor/coach and/or the employer as appropriate.
● Identify community supports for participants with mentors/coaches to provide support during and after the job placement.
Job Search:
● Provide career exploration, identification and clarification of interests, abilities, skills, education and experience in relation to short- and long-term career and employment goals of the participants.
● Preparation of job search tools including resumes and applications, interview and job search strategies.
● Facilitate structured and individualized support for conducting successful job search to individuals in a group setting or individually.
● Provide counseling and coaching on life skills that support successful employment.
● Support individuals with disclosure of disabilities that may affect employment participation.
● Provide support to participants in assessing their qualifications against job requirements of the current labour market.
● Provide information about and access to professional accreditation and apprenticeship.
● Support mentoring and coaching during the job search process.
● Provide supported referral and access to other services including but not limited to education and training.
QUALIFICATIONS
● University Degree or related College Diploma or demonstrated skills and experience.
● Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in some or all aspects of Job Search, Job Placement, Job Retention including employment/coaching.
● Minimum of 2 years experience facilitating job search related sessions with knowledge of current job search techniques and assessment tools in a group setting to adult learners.
● Excellent understanding of job search strategies, career counseling and experience facilitating full time job search sessions.
● Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
● Demonstrated understanding of community resources, programs and services.
● Ability to administer and interpret Level B tests/psychological instruments.
● Personality Dimensions, MBTI, or Life Skills Certification would be an asset
● Goal oriented, highly organized, flexible and adaptable with superior time management skills.
● Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
● Experience and familiar with using career resources including computerized assessment tools
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
● Strong presentation/facilitating and one to one coaching skills.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Salary: $70,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
