Job Description
Under the limited supervision of the Manager, Data Integration & Quality, this position is responsible for performing highly complex and multidimensional duties related to the interpretation of financial and/or accounting reports for Alberta Health Services in accordance with AHS policies and procedures, generally accepted accounting principles and financial directives issued by Alberta Health. This position has increased responsibility, as well as coaching and indirect supervision of other department staff. The Senior Financial Analyst will: Recommend program and/or cost efficiencies and develop or enhance processes and controls. Apply broad accounting principles, understand legal requirements and interpret policy/procedure guidelines. Have a strong understanding of MIS chart of accounts, guidelines and application to AHS business. Be responsible for completing projects. This could include but is not limited to planning, coordinating, complex data analysis, collaborating with financial and operational leaders and implementing data quality solutions. Actively contributing to change processes and change management that improves health service delivery. Maintaining current knowledge of organizational, regulatory, financial and operational changes. Ability to develop strong relationships with stakeholders.
As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will coordinate and/or prepare complex financial and statistical analysis and reports, along with providing interpretation of analyses and reports to support business and external requirements. Your work will be focused on budgets, forecasting, recommendations for program and/or cost efficiencies and development or enhancements to processes and controls. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor progress of financial projects, as well as coach and guide other department staff such as Financial Analysts.

Required Qualifications:Post secondary degree specializing in accounting or related field (e.g. economics, statistics).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum three to five years experience at progressive levels of responsibility in an accounting/finance environment. Significant MIS working knowledge/experience. Must have an understanding of AHS financial statements and the AH financial directive hierarchy. Experience with Oracle Business Suite and Oracle Business Intelligence. Proficient in reading and writing Oracle PL SQL scripts. Proficient in advanced MS Excel functions such as pivot, power query and VBA macros. Working knowledge in other MS Office applications. Significant experience in a large organization, preferably healthcare, and experience in working with automated, interactive financial accounting systems. Experience in coaching and mentoring of team members. Must possess a high degree of initiative, judgment and decision-making capabilities. Attention to detail, as well as strong organizational, analytical, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to customer service by facilitating collaboration, cooperation and coalitions among diverse groups. Must have the ability to plan workload to ensure defined deadlines are met. Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information. Must have the ability to create a team environment and motivate team players. Must have strong leadership skills. Must have the ability to work with minimal direction, exhibit initiative and be a self-starter.
Preferred Qualifications:Professional accounting designation preferred. Candidates without a designation may be considered if demonstrated significant progress towards completion of designation requirements and extensive experience. Candidates with project management and/or AHS Improvement Way (AIW) experience is an asset. Experience in medium to large provincial projects preferred.
