Boralex Inc. is seeking a financial analyst/associate to support our greenfield project development, financing, and M&A activities as part of Boralex’s North American M&A and Offtake Origination Team. You will support the company’s efforts in greenfield development, project financing and M&A. Through this rotational program, Boralex aims to cultivate the next generation of commercial leaders.
The M&A and Offtake Origination Team is responsible for Boralex’s North American commercial activities, including greenfield support, offtake origination, corporate development, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and working closely with the project financing team.
You will spend approximately 6 months with each of the M&A, financing and greenfield development groups within the M&A and Offtake Origination Team, after which time you will specialize in one of these areas. Your time with the greenfield group will cover all aspects of greenfield development, from initial economic viability and offtake bidding strategy to raising financing. Your time with the M&A group will include opportunity screening, valuations, scenario analyses, RFP submissions, execution and closings.
As a renewable energy project developer, owner and operator, Boralex is focused on responsibly generating electricity and contributing meaningfully to our host communities. For over 30 years, Boralex has developed and acquired hydropower, solar, and wind facilities across the world with more than 2.5 GW of capacity in operation and 3.5 GW in development. We are actively developing and acquiring new wind, solar, hydro, and storage projects to meet our aggressive growth targets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Senior VP, M&A and Offtake and Origination, your role and responsibilities will be as follows:
- Utilize financial modeling tools to screen potential M&A opportunities and complete the initial project valuations following Boralex’s investment criteria to provide guidance to management.
- Manage financial models for all stages of greenfield development assets, including early-stage development, supporting offtake bidding and structuring, financing, and construction-related matters.
- Collaborate and work closely with subject matter experts (including finance, accounting, tax, engineering, construction, legal and operations) as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure that the valuation analysis properly reflects due diligence findings and is up to date and accurate for bids, strategic analysis, and financing processes.
- Adapt existing financial models to project-specific requirements and structures.
- Support the continued development of internal financial models.
- Perform market analysis on macroeconomic and regional trends, including impacts of tax law change, interest rate environment, inflation fluctuations, and their effect on the viability of the projects.
- Support bid submissions, execution, and closings.
- Prepare materials for Investment Committee review and present results to senior management.
YOUR SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in power, utilities, renewable energy, M&A or project finance.
- Comfortable manipulating existing financial models and adapt them to specific projects and structures.
- A keen interest in renewable energy trends and developments in North America.
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written) and excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to present complex, technical topics to internal and external audiences of various sizes and knowledge levels.
- Experience working on large projects with multiple stakeholders on tight timelines.
- Ability and desire to learn and take on responsibility quickly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Self-sufficient and attentive to detail.
- Meticulous, versatile, creative, and resourceful.
- Mindful of confidentiality requirements and corporate image.
