Job Description
Graphic designers conceptualize and produce graphic art and visual materials to effectively communicate information for publications, advertising, films, packaging, posters, signs and interactive media such as Web sites and CDs. They are employed by advertising and graphic design firms, by establishments with advertising or communications departments and by multimedia production companies, or they may be self-employed. Graphic designers who are also supervisors, project managers or consultants are included in this unit group. Illustrators conceptualize and create illustrations to represent information through images. They are almost solely self-employed.
Main duties
- Collaborate with clients to understand their requirements and create visual communication materials that align with their needs.
- Determine the most suitable medium and communication channel to achieve the desired visual impact.
- Create graphic elements that fulfill clients' objectives.
- Utilize traditional tools, multimedia software, and design software to prepare sketches, layouts, and graphic components.
- Estimate the cost of materials and the time required to complete graphic design projects.
- Source from existing photo and illustration databases or hire illustrators or photographers to obtain images that meet clients' communication requirements.
- Provide guidelines and direction to illustrators or photographers.
- Coordinate various aspects of production for print, audio-visual, or electronic materials, such as websites, CDs, and interactive terminals.
- Manage subcontracting tasks.
- Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Supervise other graphic designers or technicians in the field of graphic arts.
- Consult with clients to determine the nature and content of illustrations for effective communication.
- Create realistic or representational sketches and final illustrations, either manually or using computer-assisted design software, for printed materials like books, magazines, packaging, greeting cards, and stationery.
- Assist in developing storyboards for electronic media, such as multimedia, interactive products, digital content, television advertisements, and productions.
- Produce 2D and 3D animated drawings or computer-generated illustrations.
- May modify existing illustrations to meet specific requirements.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to $35.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
Ability to commute/relocate:
- SURREY, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Experience:
- Graphic design: 5 years (preferred)
