Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist reports to Senior Manager, Human Resources and is accountable for administering and coordination of HR programs, policies and procedures with a focus on labour relations and employee engagement. The position provides guidance and advice and is the first point of contact for employees, supervisors and responds to a variety of Human Resources related questions. This role will also assist the department in other administrative duties such as organizing training sessions and company culture events.
Key Accountabilities
- Sound understanding of the Collective Agreement, including the interpretation and application of the grievance process to assist the Sr. Manager, Human Resources in ensuring that employee-related issues are properly addressed and resolved.
- Conducts investigations and makes recommendations in the resolution of sensitive issues, ensuring discretion, continuity and consistency with practices, policy, intent of the Collective Agreement and Sofina objectives.
- Acts as an advisor to operational leaders on the administration of the collective agreement(s)
- Administers the Attendance Management Program to ensure consistent application and compliance and escalates cases to Sr. Manager HR as appropriate.
- Works with operational leaders on non-occupational disability accommodations and leaves of absences including regular follow-up to the employee and providing updates to supervisors of return to work.
- Coach and mentor supervisors and provide recommendations and resolutions to employee concerns.
- Conducts frequent plant visits with an intention to meet hourly employees across various shifts and address employee issues and concerns.
- Organize training sessions and employee engagement activities as required..
- Conducts exit interviews and presents exit analysis report to the management.
- Liaison for employee benefits and payroll inquiries ensuring timely follow up, employee vouchers, vendor payments and preparing of job reference letters.
- Provides back-up coverage to Health and Safety when required, to complete forms and conducting investigations as needed.
- Assists with HR audits, employee record keeping and timely reporting within the HRIS systems
- Supports the Sr. Manager, Human Resources with reporting on location based KPIs.
- Leads the recruitment and selection processes for hourly employees in accordance with company standards to ensure that plant hourly recruitment needs are met. Including posting the positions, screen applications, interviewing, reference checks, preparation of offer letters, and conducting hourly new hire orientations.
- Support the Sr. Manager, Human Resources by preparing and placing internal/external salary recruitment postings, screening resumes, setting up interviews, reference checks and updating recruitment trackers in a timely manner.
- Provide administrative support as required.
Requirements
- Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience in Human Resources, holding a CHRP designation a strong asset
- 3–5+ years’ experience in HR generalist role working in a manufacturing environment. Experience in a unionized environment a plus.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and analytical skills.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Kronos.
- Self-motivated, strong hands-on work ethic.
