NATURE & SCOPE
The Human Resources Generalist provides daily HR support and coaching to all operations on a broad range of HR
Issues. In addition, the Human Resources Generalist oversees the HRIS. The Generalist reports to the Senior General
Manager, Human Resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer the Associations Human Resource policies and practices;
- Provide coaching and support to supervisors and managers about HR functions including salary, pension and benefits, performance management, disability management, terminations, staff development and retention; advise on employee relations issues;
- Advise Y leaders on compliance with employment related law; understand statutory and common law requirements;
- Guide and advise on risk situations including disability management, accommodation, human rights issues and terminations;
- Investigate and solve problems around HR issues and documentation; identify opportunities for process improvement;
- Oversee the HRIS system, working closely with Finance/Payroll; maintain system security and integrity, enter data, ensure that records are current and all risk management items (such as CRC VSS reports) are tracked; design, structure and prepare reports; assist to anticipate, develop and structure new uses for the HRIS in support of Association needs;
- Produce regular reports to support operations through critical data tracking and analysis;
- Maintain the salary grids; administer annual salary administration plan including preparing system input for salary changes; draft and update job descriptions; evaluate positions for placement in the salary grid; advise Y leaders regarding salary;
- Prepare and place job postings and ads; support recruitment throughout the Association; assist with group interviews; complete reference checks; attend job fairs;
- Administer the annual performance management review and goal setting process;
- Maintain HR section of the intranet site and other platforms for employee communications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College or University Degree in Human Resources or related field
- Specialized education in Human Resource Management required
- 3 years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist role
- Experience coaching others through complex situations
- Demonstrated proficiency in system administration and work flow in an HRIS
- Advanced report writing skills and Excel skills
- Good knowledge of relevant legislation including Employment Standards, Human Rights Code and Pay Equity
- Good knowledge of disability management and employee relations
- Good knowledge of compensation and benefits and job evaluation
- Good verbal and written communication skills; proven problem solving skills
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently in a decentralized environment
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office
- CHRP designation is required
- Participate in training and adhere to the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures as established by the YMCA of Niagara
- A clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, issued for the YMCA of Niagara, will be required upon hire
- Valid G license is required due to travel throughout the Niagara Region
