As part of the laboratory team the successful candidate will be responsible for performing duties in the Rapid Response Laboratory including specimen receipt, handling, sample preparation for processing, equipment maintenance, dispatching of referred out tests and communication with other health professionals as required.
Qualifications:- Successful completion of a recognized post-secondary education program in Laboratory Medicine
- Commitment to complete education and obtain certification in OSMT (Ontario Society of Medical Technology)/ MLPAO (Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario) or CSMLS (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science) within 3 months of hire
- Experience with and demonstrated understanding of quality assurance and standard laboratory practices
- Recent experience working in a laboratory receiving room
- Previous experience with a laboratory information system
- Effective analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must demonstrate ability to work independently and prioritize workload in a fast paced environment.
- Must be able to work cooperatively and constructively with other team members.
- Ability to meet physical demands- constant walking and standing
- Satisfactory attendance and performance required
Your primary site will be Mississauga Hospital Site with frequent rotation to the Queensway Health Centre and therefore periodic travel between sites may be necessary. In future your primary site may change with reasonable notice.
