About PAQ
PAQ is an Indigenous organization that accompanies First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples facing housing insecurity in Tio’tià: ke / Montréal. Using a culturally adapted approach based on empowerment and harm reduction, we offer shelter, housing options and services that promote well-being and healing, and strengthen community. We work in partnership to advocate for the health and housing rights of urban Indigenous Peoples.
The opportunity
As a part of the PAQ team, you will be joining a group of individuals who are committed to helping change the lives of Indigenous men and women in Montreal. Working closely with community members to meet their long-term goals, you will have the opportunity to see the life changing benefits of your work on a daily basis. Working with dedication to PAQ’s mission, you will have access to the support of team members as well as training in the areas of intervention, suicide prevention, trauma informed approaches, First Aid and Indigenous cultural knowledge.
Responsibilities:
- Welcomes and admits vulnerable Indigenous women and men wishing to stay at PAQ’s shelter.
- Provides support and intervention tailored to the needs of participants.
- Facilitates and fosters group life and the feeling of community with participants.
- Maintains the stability, security and cleanliness of the premises and ensures compliance with PAQ protocols.
- Serves meals and ensures the proper functioning of the community room.
- Intervenes in crisis or emergency situations and responds to the needs of residents according to PAQ procedures and services.
- Completes relevant documents, statistics and reports.
- Performs any other task assigned by the Shelter Coordinator or the Team Leader, if necessary.
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrate understanding and commitment to reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples.
- Minimum 6 months of experience in intervention, social work, or other similar fields related to helping relationships.
- Experience working with a homeless population.
- Experience working in the fields of addictions and/or mental health (an asset)
- Experience living or working with Indigenous communities or people.
- Bilingualism (functional spoken French and English); an Indigenous languages an asset
- Ability to work in a team
Compensation:
Day and evening shifts: $24/hour
Overnight shifts: $26.50/hour
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week
Salary: $24.00-$26.50 per hour
