Job Description
The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, owns and operates Iris Court a supportive living accommodation for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness. Iris Court provides support staff 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to 21 tenants living with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Reporting directly to the Housing Manager the Housing support worker will work collaboratively with the Iris Court team to provide support to the residents in maintaining their housing promoting their independence and supporting them through their recovery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma/Certificate in a related human services field and preferred 2 years experience working with individuals with mental illness and addictions.
· Effective listening skills self motivated work ethic and flexibility
· Standard First Aid Level C CPR required
· Criminal records check required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Establish rapport with clients and build a relationship based on mutual respect and empathy while maintaining clear and professional boundaries
· Assist tenants in accessing community resources and professional clinical services
· Observes and reports changes in tenant’s level of functioning (both physical and mental) and level of participation in activities to the Iris Court team.
· Report and document tenant-related concerns. E.g. client distress, change in behavior
· Perform all daily and weekly duties and project work as related to the operations at Iris Court
· Adheres to established protocols for safety, privacy and confidentiality
· Report and help correct unsafe conditions or unsafe actions by other staff members, tenants or visitors.
· Respond to all emergency calls and activate the appropriate Iris Court emergency response protocols
· Other tasks and duties as assigned.
