Job Description
This position provides basic necessities and ongoing supports with the goal of increasing the capacity of individuals and families to meet their needs over the long term. This is achieved by addressing the social, physical, mental and spiritual needs of those who are seeking aid and assistance from or have been referred to The Salvation Army.
Client Assistance & Support:- Assess the client’s emotional, physical, social, and mental needs as per The Salvation Army’s guidelines.
- Support and develop client’s emotional, physical, social and mental needs according to The Salvation Army’s Social Services Accreditation Standards and the Code of Ethics.
- Liaise with appropriate community agencies, conduct referrals and advocate for the client, addressing his/her needs remaining within The Salvation Army policy.
- Support and develop client understanding of peers in a social setting according to The Salvation Army’s Social Services Accreditation Standards.
- Ensure the client has the information and documentation required to complete course of action to meet their needs.
- Complete accurate and comprehensive documentation relevant to the client as per TSA policy and procedure. This would include, but not limited to, application forms, referral forms, and case notes.
- Record and maintain relevant client information in CMS.
Program:
- Participate in staff meetings as directed by CRC Supervisor
- Attend relevant workshops & training as approved by the CRC Supervisor
- Oversee the Hot Meal Program which includes oversight of the premises; procurement of food according to the menus; ensuring quality and quantity standards are met, remaining within budget guidelines, preparation of food meeting TSA policy and Canada Food Guide requirements and, schedule of the volunteers
- Participate as required in the Bridge and Loan Program which may include the initial interview, procuring and confirming the appropriate information, presenting the case to the Community Approval Committee and, follow through with the decision
- Participate as required in the Community Warmth Program which may include the initial interview, procuring and confirming the appropriate information, presenting the case to the Community Approval Committee and, follow through with the decision
- Ensure all daily activities meet best practice, safety and licensing standards
- Assist and support the Community Wellness Programs under the direction of the CRC Supervisor.
Communication & Public Relations:
- Liaise with co-workers and management of the clients’ situation and progress as required
- Greet the public and address their needs as per The Salvation Army policy
- Record donations of food given by the community
- Work in conjunction with the CRC Supervisor to ensure the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army are met, for the betterment of the community of Medicine Hat
- Document all significant events in logbook, occurrence reports and staff communication book as per TSA policy.
- Assist in Emergency Disaster services as directed by the Corps Officers.
Daily Operations and Facility Management:
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Daily cleaning and disinfecting of men’s and women’s washrooms
- Washing the floors of the washrooms, hallway and kitchen. Vacuum carpeted areas.
- Daily cleaning and disinfecting chairs, tables and doorknobs
- Conduct regular safety checks on equipment as per safety standards
- Complete purchases for the daily operations of the Resource Centre, as it pertains to job responsibilities, remaining within budget guidelines. When order is received, ensure goods received match invoice detail before sign-off.
- In conjunction with CRC Supervisor, ensure facility operations run smoothly
Other related duties as assigned.
NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
- Completion of a formal post-secondary college certificate program and specialized courses or certification in the human services field
- Two (2) years of human services or social work-related experience
- Certified in First Aid/CPR, Safe Food Handling and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/Professional Assault Response Training

- Experience/working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Adhere to all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training
- Valid Alberta Class “5” Driver’s License, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Original copy of a Background check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.
- Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

DAYS and HOURS of Centre operation:
Permanent Part time – 20 hours per week
Monday to Friday 11:00 am to 7 p.m.
