Job Description
Dan’s Legacy is currently seeking full-time experienced Therapists to work with youth at risk, ages 15 to 25, in Metro Vancouver. Our growing team of therapists work in dynamic partnerships and inter-disciplinary teams to provide long-term trauma-informed and culturally safe counselling for marginalized youth, many of whom are in care or have aged out of care, have experienced trauma, and may be experiencing substance use and/or precarious housing and employment.
Dan’s Legacy is a rare and unique place to work, applying our trauma-informed practices at all levels of our work, including with our team members. As a member of the therapy team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with highly skilled professionals including other therapists, social workers, outreach workers, and employment specialists. We also provide rich and diverse opportunities for professional development as well as clinical supervision for individuals and as a team. This position reports directly to the Clinical Manager-Mental Health.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide long-term trauma-informed therapy to youth clients aged 15-25, according to a radical, integrative and holistic model of change
- Engage youth in highly flexible and creative ways including via remote/virtual counselling, in-community sessions, and sessions at approved community partner sites
- Attend partner sites located throughout the Lower Mainland; many are easily accessible by transit, but having access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners and across internal teams; effectively and proactively refer clients to appropriate services and resources as needed
- Demonstrate mature clinical judgement and strong ability to apply critical thinking in independent work
- Seek regular consultation and participate wholeheartedly in clinical development activities
- Complete case management according to ethical and professional standards to support inter-disciplinary functioning and consistent approaches to clients
- Maintain reasonable and flexible productivity expectations, in accordance with program needs and goals
- Receive and assess counselling referrals as assigned by the Clinical Manager-Mental Health.
- Comply with the APA Ethics Code (available upon request)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be double vaccinated against COVID-19
- A successful criminal record and vulnerable sector check will be required prior to the start of employment
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work (required)
- Current registration in good standing with professional body, such as BCACC, CCPA, or BCCSW
- Ability to travel to different locations throughout the Lower Mainland
- Facility with Microsoft applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Word
- Facility with web-based and smartphone-based applications for case management and administrative duties
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 1+ year direct clinical service with youth at risk
- 1+ year family counselling experience
- Experience leveraging existing community supports
- New therapists with lived experience are encouraged to apply

About Dan’s Legacy
Dan’s Legacy provides trauma-informed and culturally sensitive counselling and life-skills programs to youth at risk in Metro Vancouver. These young people, aged 15 to 25, are at significant risk of overdose, self-harm, homelessness, and suicide. Dan’s Legacy’s therapy and outreach teams go directly to the youth wherever they are, there are no wait lists, and all the organization's services are free. In the past year, Dan’s Legacy helped over 600 youth stabilize their mental health, and begin working towards their educational, employment and recovery goals.
Counselling Program Description
Dan’s Legacy’s counselling programs are designed to meet the specific needs of this highly vulnerable group, with holistic therapy based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness principles, balanced with proper diet and exercise. When these youth cannot access counselling and life-skills support, they are at risk of developing serious and life-long mental health issues, chronic unemployment, homelessness, addiction, and death by suicide.
