This position works closely with the management team in the day-to-day requirements of the shop. The Associate’s primary area of responsibility is in the Retail area.The Associate’s assignments in Retail may include:Cash – working as a cashier, assisting with floats and daily reconciliationsThe retail floor - merchandising and replenishing shelves and maintaining shop cleanlinessAssisting with sorting and pricing donationsWorking hours include evenings and Saturdays and are reflective of shop hours. The Associate will work in close collaboration with all the shop staff team and volunteers.As required, the Associate will receive health and safety training including WHMIS and First AID, CPR upon hire.The Care & Share Thrift Shop seeks to be a friendly, caring presence in the community, showing value and respect to all. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.ChallengesKey Responsibilities RetailAssist Coordinators in developing strategies to meet revenue targets in their areas of focusBe proactive in maintaining clean workspaces that meet health & safety standards, in the workroom and on the retail floorAssist with light cleaning to ensure immaculately clean retail and workroom environment (e.g. sweeping, dusting displays, recycling & garbage collection, etc.)Sort, clean and price donations in various departments as neededArea of focus and responsibilities may be concentrated on key areasAssist in maintaining the stock on the floor and setting up merchandise displays on the sales floorOperate Point of Sale terminal and handle cash, gift cards and card payments with complete accuracyAssist with cash floats and daily reconciliationsUse a discernable eye when dealing with antiques and collectibles, ensuring one-of-a-kind pieces are brought to the attention of the appropriate staff membersOtherAssist with kitchen responsibilities / Maintain and coordinate the volunteer break roomShare the news about MCC and MCC Thrift Shops in the communityPerform other job-related duties as assignedParticipate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development DayParticipate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with othersMaintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalizedAnswer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC's values, articulating the importance of MCC's criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCCModel nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public Apply Go Back
