Community Outreach Navigator

We are seeking a Community Outreach Navigator to become part of our collaborative team. The navigator position is a newly created role, the result of a Board led revisioning process. This process reaffirmed Met’s values and direction as an outward facing community strategically employing its resources for the broader good as well as strengthening the worshipping community. It will support advocacy initiatives, both existing and new, co-ordinate volunteers, liaise with both the congregation and community partners. This newly created role will integrate within Met as well as connect to the broader community.
The Person
The navigator role requires an individual who will have the skills and expertise to execute the new delivery model for Metropolitan outreach, working with a multi-disciplinary team. The individual will have demonstrated experience supporting internal stakeholders and external organizations in community engagement and program evaluation. Program leadership with strong collaborative skills to work with all stakeholders to meet Met’s strategic objectives is required. The position will effectively be the Met’s liaison and connection to the neighbourhood, particularly the community support services.
Outreach Navigator Position Overview
This role will focus on developing a Met front-line response team that utilizes neighbourhood supports and resources. Development of and enhancement of partnerships and programming opportunities for Met is a key component to this new delivery model. This Position will:
- Develop and manage neighbourhood stakeholder relationships and foster partnerships to deepen
Met’s connection with opportunities to utilize local support services
- Assist with the development and enhancement of new and existing advocacy initiatives for our outreach program
- Require development of a data collection process for the purposes of analysis and reporting to support program evaluation
- Focus on volunteer recruitment, training, and development and congregational support
- Be a component of and aligned with the stated values of Met’s ministry.
Key Responsibilities are equally weighted among the following three categories:
1. Front Line Caring and Support:
- Provide outreach resources and supports as available through partnerships agencies
- Work collaboratively with community agencies to connect/re-connect individuals with supports
- Support the work of lay people in leadership positions and volunteers who are Narthex
Greeters, Community Meal Programs and work with refugees among other volunteer opportunities.
2. Partnership Engagement
- Work directly with external partnerships and agencies in the immediate community
- Foster existing relationships, i.e. and continue to work with our downtown Faith Hub,
CAMH, TDIN and represent Met with local organizations who have shared interests in the neighbourhood, The Works, Yonge/Dundas Working Table, and the United Way East
Toronto Coordinating Group
- Engage in seeking opportunities for and evaluation of new partnerships.
3. Advocacy for positive change, peace, and social justice
- Be aware and engaged in social outreach allowing for to support focus on advocacy and active engagement on initiatives of the congregation
- Expertise in new program delivery models such as developing programing for seniors
- Provide support for existing committees; Peace & Social Justice, Parks Ministry and,
Refugee Sponsorship
- Work on behalf of Met to support congregational events and projects
▪ Assist with coordination of volunteers for different initiatives within Metropolitan and MET outreach projects.
Position Requirements
▪ University degree or College diploma and/or relevant work experience in the field of Social
Services or Social Work, social justice or community engagement
▪ Demonstrated track record of work experience including community engagement/services, volunteer program leadership, and social programs
▪ Excellent organizational and time management skills
▪ Excellent communication skills
▪ Comfortable providing and supporting front line outreach and empowerment to a vulnerable population of diverse needs including those with mental health and addiction challenges and those who are underhoused
▪ Good project management skills, ability to collect data and provide analysis and reports to senior management
▪ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
▪ Ability and willingness to follow workplace policies and procedures
▪ First Aid, and CPR. Certification, CPI or UMAB Training
▪ Availability to work Sundays and evenings as required
▪ Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Salary $70,000 plus health and dental benefits and United Church of Canada pension plan.
