Job Description
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a leadership role that operates to support patients admitted to the acute care service under the Hospitalist group and support optimization of patient flow within GBGH. As part of the Hospitalist team, patient intake is prioritized from referrals by the Emergency Department physicians and the inpatient program. As the NP your practice will include management of acute care and chronic care patients admitted and managed by the hospitalist service and provide support to hospitalists in the medical management of patients.
You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient experience and As the successful candidate, you will practice to the full NP scope of practice by diagnosing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medication and assist with admission, management and discharge of patients in their hospital journey in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Standards of Practice: Nurse Practitioners (revised 2021) and policies of GBGH.

- Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the Extended Class (EC) in good standing
- 3-5 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an acute care setting with gerontology experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of best practices for the geriatric population
- Current membership in Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and/or Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario
- Successful completion of a Prescribing Narcotics and Controlled Substances course approved by the CNO
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification
- Advanced nursing assessment skills and sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics/interventions
- Knowledge of theoretical frameworks and knowledge translation strategies
- Demonstrates effective patient/family counselling skills
- Excellent organizational, critical appraisal, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
- Well organized and proactive with the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple competing priorities
- Knowledge of Community Wide Scheduling and documentation in electronic health records as well as paper charts while adhering to documentation standards
- Ability to act as a change agent, and foster collaborative teamwork
- Demonstrates an ability to provide leadership, support, and critical analysis in stressful, complex clinical and emotional situations
- Demonstrates a high level of initiative and self-direction
- Excellent attendance and a discipline free record
- CNA certification in Gerontology Nursing an asset
- Completion of specialized courses such as PIECES, GPA, or Montessori an asset
- Bilingual - English and French is an asset
- Knowledgeable of Meditech System an asset

Hours of Work: Permanent Full Time. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement. Flexible scheduling arrangements that are mutually agreeable will be supported.
Salary: $55.16 to $60.01 an hour
