Occupational Therapist
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the full time, permanent position of Occupational Therapist. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals who have disabilities to improve their skills, promote independence and he/she will provide creative strategies, adapt activities and prescribe equipment.
Note: In the event that we are unable to fill this position on a full-time basis, MLTC will consider applicants on a contractual basis.
DUTIES (include but not limited to):
· Provide consultative services to community health nurses, parents, classroom teachers, educational assistants, special education teachers, principals and administration.
· Assess individuals with formal and informal measures to determine areas of strengths and areas that are challenging.
· Create reports which provide recommendations to the home or school-based team which may include (but are not limited to): adapting activities, providing equipment, creating individualized programming and making suggestions to improve the learning/home environment.
· Follow up with individuals/caregivers /staff on a regular basis. Work one on one with individual to improve skills in specific areas.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Degree in Occupational Therapy from an approved School of Occupational Therapy.
· Membership in good standing with the Saskatchewan Society of Occupational Therapists.
· Previous experience working with First Nation individuals/communities will be considered.
· Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
· Ability to travel extensively and possession of a valid driver’s license
· Ability to speak/understand Cree/Dene and cultural competence is considered a valuable asset.
· Salary is commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.
