Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Occupational Therapist, functions as a member of the Mental Health & Addictions Program and the multi-disciplinary team, participating in the planning, development, provision and evaluation of Mental Health & Addictions.
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the case management and provision of mental health services to clients enrolled in the Beacon Program. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing psychosocial assessments, functional assessments, and diagnostic impressions, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring individual clinical outcomes, making case management decisions, implementing and facilitating groups, and developing and implementing a discharge plan. The Occupational Therapist links clients to agencies, services, and programs as indicated. The Occupational Therapist documents accurate, concise, and current clinical notes according to professional standards.
The Occupational Therapist exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the Mental Health & Addictions and the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of an accredited University Program in Occupational Therapy.
- Eligible for membership in the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association.
- Eligible for registration to practice Occupational Therapy in Nova Scotia.
- One year of Occupational Therapy experience with clients in an Addiction & Mental Health setting an asset
- Experience in the development of collaborative partnerships and initiatives with other agencies and community stakeholders.
- Experience working in a community-based setting.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of community-based population health approach.
- Knowledge of appropriate assessment tools for clients in an Addiction & Mental Health setting.
- Suicide Risk Assessment Training an asset
- Psychosocial Rehabilitation Training an asset
- Strong knowledge and understanding of recovery as it pertains to mental health & addictions
- Concurrent Disorders Training an asset
- Demonstrated effective decision making regarding client care, critical thinking, and problem solving skills in a pressure situation required
- Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to provide effective Addiction & Mental Health/Occupational Therapy assessments
- Demonstrated commitment to pursue continuing education to maintain or enhance professional knowledge as needed
- Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative.
- Physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position, such as working flexible hours; dealing with stressful situations; working alone in a satellite office; and travelling/working at other areas as required.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

$33.79- $42.68 Hourly
