Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the General Accountant is responsible for all billing related tasks and reconciliation of payments from Parents and Municipalities. The position also supports centre supervisors, coordinators and other relevant staff on the Child Care Management and Billing system, accounting processes and procedures, and record keeping for HCC and Centres.
Job Duties:
- Review, check and process monthly billing for parents and municipalities for centres and Home Child Care programs, using the new Microsoft based Child Care Management and Billing system
- Reconcile billing and receipts for parents, ensuring any NSF’s are followed up as per the Agency’s procedure
- Reconciles billing and receipts from regions for municipal subsidies
- Post municipal subsidies receipts in centres database and assist supervisors with entries
- Perform review of centre based documentation and procedures to ensure that they comply with current policies and practices
- Monthly accounts receivable reconciliation and collections
- Administrate pre-authorized payment systems for assigned centers.
- Provide backup support for the accounts payable position.
- Do entries for bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Preparation of month end journal entries.
- Reconciliation of sub ledgers to the general ledger and update recurring batches.
- Reconcile cash, accounts payable and clearing balance accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the financial records
- Prepares year-to-date financial reports to the (Ministry of Education, Children’s Services).
- Assist in the year-end account analysis and prepares audit schedules
- Completes special projects assigned by the Manager of Finance
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, macros, lookup functions) Microsoft Word and PowerPointA team player that will think strategically and effectively when faced with difficult challenges.
- Highly organized and efficient to prioritize and work effectively in a deadline oriented environment.
- Ability to work with minimal direction, including ensuring that all work aligns with program and Agency goals.

Education and Experience Required
- Working towards an Accounting designation, e.g. CGA, CPA
- University degree or 3-year accounting college diploma
- 4 to 6 years of financial accounting experience
- Preferred experience in the not for profit sector
- Proficient in computerized financial systems and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP/Business Central would be an asset
