Physiotherapist

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the full time, permanent position of Physiotherapist. The successful candidate work with people who have various types of disabilities to achieve their functional goals. These goals may include, but are not limited to: accessibility (home, school, community, etc.), mobility (wheelchairs, walkers), and motor skills (coordination, range of motion, walking), or daily living skills for mobility and transfers. Through observation and assessment an individualized treatment plan can be created and recommendations will be made.

DUTIES (include but not limited to):

· Provide consultative services to clients and their family, community health nurses, physicians, home care and support staff.

· Assess individuals with formal and informal measures to identify areas that require physiotherapy services and will collaborate with the client to develop goals and program plan along with health team.

· Create reports which provide recommendations to the home or community-based team which may include (but are not limited to): adapting activities, providing equipment, creating individualized programming and making suggestions to improve client’s desired and potential function.

· Follow up with individuals/caregivers /staff on a regular basis. Work one on one with individual to improve skills in specific areas.

· Collaboration with Health Team members regarding promotion of physical wellness through education.

· Capacity building for home health aide support related to client function and activities of daily living and staff safety while providing care.

· Active member of the MLTC Health Team.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ABILITIES:

· Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy

· Registered with the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapist

· Previous experience working with First Nation individuals/communities will be considered.

· Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

· Ability to travel extensively and possession of a valid driver’s license

· Ability to speak/understand Cree/Dene and cultural competence is considered a valuable asset.

· Salary is commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.
