Job Description
Milk River is a town located in Southern Alberta named after the Milk River that flows south of the town. The Milk River area has a population over 900 people, primarily farmers and cattle ranchers. Milk River is 70 km south of Lethbridge and 16 km from the US border. Milk River has some of the warmest summer temperatures and milder winters. There are several recreational activities both within the town and nearby such as Writing on Stone Provincial Park and the Dinosaur Heritage Museum. Milk River Health Centre provides Emergency Department Services, Long Term Care, and Community Transitional beds.
Operating in concert with and under the direction of a licensed physician, the physician assistant performs a broad range of medical services. The Physician Assistant shall: Possess a defined body of knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient-centered care consistent with the National Competency Profile for Canadian Physician Assistants. They will apply these competencies to collect and interpret information, make appropriate clinical decisions, and carry out diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. They do so within the boundaries of their discipline of which they are practicing, personal expertise, the healthcare setting, and the delegator relationship with their supervising physician and the patient’s preferences and context. Their care will be characterized by up-to-date, ethical, and resource-efficient clinical practice as well as with effective communication in partnership with patients, other health care providers and the community. The Physician Assistant incorporates clinical medicine with relevance across the human life cycle, including: inpatient care, outpatient care, surgical care, emergency care, psychiatric/behavioral care and primary care.

Required Qualifications:Graduation from a recognized Physician Assistant Education program. Certification as a physician assistant by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) . Registration as a physician assistant with the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSA)
Additional Required Qualifications:As professionals supervised by physicians, PAs are to follow all CPSA Standards of Practice and comply with CPSA continuing competence requirements. You will be responsible for maintaining continuing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality improvement activities.
