Job Description
Responds to plan members’ requests for benefit information & forms. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with employees, OHS&W, Benefits, Payroll and Management as well as insurers in regards to status of claims. Records all pertinent information regarding employees illness and or accidents in the OHS&W data base. Reports Rehabilitation earnings to the insurance provider to ensure the plan member is accurately compensated during their gradual return to work. Potential reconciliation of incorrect pay and time coding. Run reports on employee sick accruals and and to identify employee’s approaching their change in definition or age 65 limitation. Review tracking report of outstanding plan member claims to avoid employees being disqualified from benefit entitlements and to avoid an interruption in income replacement while employees are on leave. Run reports to verify age and claiming limitations have been captured in the payroll system (LTD/CIB Vol life ins). Potential reconciliation of employee premiums Coordinates disability claims with external and internal providers. Opening and Closing SUB Plan, STD/LTD, WCB and Salary continuance files. Calculating sick credit end dates and providing Sun Life with the information. Issuing 30 month letter to employees when applicable or age 65 letters. Sending notices to payroll and the employee for WCB, STD, LTD, RTW, and terminated files. Maintain salary and benefit information for STD/LTD and WCB. Problem solving of errors in regards to inaccurate payments and Return to Work Plans. Monitors STD/LTD claims with WCB implications. Ensures that communication of waiver of premium to Payroll and employees are provided in a timely manner. Communicate to Payroll and Benefits when mat leave starts. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:Must have at least two years directly related experience administering disability benefits. Knowledge of short and long term disability policies, procedures and legislation. Strong computer literacy in Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, HR information systems and reporting programs is required. Ability to maintain internal and external relationships. Excellent customer service and inter-personal skills required. Strong oral and written communication skills. Self motivated and directed.
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent organization and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments in an environment of constant change Ability to handle stressful situations and provide conflict resolution. Able to maintain a professional level of diplomacy, confidentiality and tact.
Preferred Qualifications:Post Secondary education in Human Resources or Disability Management from a recognized post secondary institution is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Work experience in a unionized hospital environment preferred.
