The Patient and Family Engagement Program Manager shapes and manages the Patient and Family Engagement Program at SickKids. This includes overseeing, coordinating and maintaining a robust Family Advisory Network (FAN) and ensuring that the voice of Patient and Family Advisors (Advisors) is heard and brought to various hospital committees and initiatives across the organization. The Program Manager will develop/implement frameworks and policy to define and articulate patient and family engagement, the role of Advisors, and the recognition of Advisors. They will also have oversight for the recruitment, onboarding, orientation, ongoing engagement, and retention of Advisors and will evaluate and make improvements to these processes on an ongoing basis. The Program Manager will promote a culture of patient and family engagement and work with teams across the organization to advance engagement in initiatives that aim to improve the quality of care and the experience of patients and families. Additionally, the Program Manager will:
- Implement strategies to ensure diverse representation on the FAN
- Manage the Family Faculty Program
- Provide regular feedback, mentorship and coaching to Advisors
- Promote and support patient and family engagement throughout the hospital including the Learning and Research Institutes
- Work closely with the Patient and Family Engagement Coordinator and oversee the recruitment, onboarding and orientation of new Advisors.
- Facilitate the placement of Family Advisors on hospital committees and projects based on the requirements of the assignment and the skill/competence/interest of the Family Advisor
- Provide education to staff about the role of advisors and assist in identifying opportunities for patient and family engagement
- Develop and sustain a FAN communication and engagement strategy including regularl updates to internal/external website FAN content and regular communication with Advisors through newsletters and/or other mediums.
- Support the activities and meetings of the Children’s Council, Family-Centred Care Advisory Council, Research Family Advisory Committee
The following skills are required:
- Master’s degree in health-related field (e.g. nursing, social work)
- 2-5 years experience working with Patient and Family Advisors
- In-depth understanding of Child and Family-Centered Care and Patient and Family Engagement
- Strong presentation skills
- Expert facilitation skills
- Experience analyzing data, identifying trends, writing and presenting reports
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
