Job Summary
The Member Relations Division provides leadership and a broad range of services in support of Colleges and Institute Canada’s (CICan) Strategic Plan and activities both internally and externally.
Reporting to the Manager, 50-30 Challenge Outreach Project, the Program Officer supports the planning, development, implementation, and management of activities related to the 50-30 Challenge Outreach Project to be delivered across Canada in collaboration with CICan Member Challenge Collaborators. An underpinning responsibility is ensuring that the Project and activities add value and are well aligned with CICan’s Strategic Plan.
The Project Officer works in a team environment with the Manager, Senior Project Officer and Project Officer and CICan Member Challenge Collaborators to promote the 50-30 Challenge Outreach Project by leveraging CICan’s extensive networks and connections to employers, industry stakeholders, equity-seeking groups, and colleges and institutes.
The Program Officer plays a role in:
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officer, in developing the 50-30 outreach campaign in conjunction with the two CICan Member Challenge Collaborators and promoting the 50-30 Challenge What Works Toolkit by engaging CICan’s national membership network, as part of a National Outreach Approach.
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officer in developing, piloting, refining and implementing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) services, training, and supports with CICan Member Challenge Collaborators and leading the delivery of these services, training and supports to 50-30 Challenge Participants that seek assistance.
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officer in supporting knowledge sharing between Challenge Participants and the broader sector by organizing training and establishing a community of practice to share lessons learned and best practices.
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officer in supporting the CICan National EDI Advisory Committee in its activities as they apply to the 50-30 Challenge Outreach Project.
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officers in implementing a Project evaluation plan and adjusting the Project annually, as required.
- Supporting the Manager and Senior Project Officer in event and meeting planning
- Supporting with the processing of the quarterly expenses.
The Program Officer also provides effective and efficient project support to the Director, Member Relations, and assists with events, as requested.
Responsibilities
1. Project Management Support
- Conduct general research, as well as member and stakeholder research.
- Provide advice on data needs, information gaps and interpretations of research.
- Provide advice on the effective use of social media in communication activities.
- Develop communication tools and templates for use by others.
- Implement processes to verify that activities are completed on time and of high quality.
- Track deliverables and support the Project team in the development of activities.
- Support the Manager and Senior Project Officers with travel planning and requests as needed.
- Help maintain CICan’s membership database.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Support in contract administration.
2. Challenge Collaborators, Member Engagement and EDI Outreach
- Assist in the implementation of a larger EDI community of practice.
- Supports communications between 50 – 30 Challenge Hubs, Knowledge Mobilization and Dissemination Centres and members
- Assist in the organizing of meetings and events
- Contribute to the development of communication tools, including the website, brochures, reports, presentations and social media.
- Assist with follow-ups and communications with stakeholders
- Support efforts to encourage members to sign and participate in the 50 –30 Challenge
- Provide editing, proofreading and basic translation of materials, as requested.
- Interact effectively with CICan staff, management and administrative staff from member institutions, funders, partners and external agencies.
3. Administration and Support to the Project Team
- Support in organizing meetings and participating on committees, as requested
- Support the Project team in assisting external financial auditors during Project audits.
- Provide support in preparing materials for the Project team, as requested.
Minimum Requirements
- Graduate from a post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Understanding the Canadian college system.
- Proficiency in managing information and administrative processes.
- Proficient user of social networks such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.
- Fluency in both written and verbal English and French, with ability to write at a professional level.
- Knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion practices
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working in collaboration with colleges and institutes

- Excellent project management skills.
- Experience in communications/public relations/marketing and online community management.
- Excellent internal and external client skills.
- Experience with committees.
- Strong ability using Microsoft Office Suite.
