Job Title: Project Engineer (Electrical)
Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Location: Brampton, ON, Canada
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for providing technical support to the engineering and project team with emphasis on electrical engineering. The ideal candidate must be technically sound, has a good attention to detail with strong analytical ability capable of leading various (electrical) engineering projects and providing technical expertise.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support the Engineering Manager and project team on various projects, both process and equipment related; with emphasis on handling electrical project management.
- Provide engineering support including planning, costing, purchasing, installation and post installation closing of projects.
- Lead small to mid-sized projects with consultation and support from Engineering Manager
- Perform hazard analysis studies and /or risk assessments and provide support for various hazard analysis studies of plant equipment / new projects.
- Provide technical support for various EH&S initiatives, 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives, continuous improvement activities, cost reduction activities, process improvement activities ; provide technical support relating to the testing and procurement of various prototype equipment.
- Act as a technical resource person for supervisors and other staff.
- Ensure consistency and integrity of prototype equipment in accordance with all codes and specifications.
- Participates in project meetings on regular basis.
- Ensure all security and EHS policies are followed by those contractors under their control
- Performs other job related tasks as required.
SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
- The incumbent will work closely with the engineering team, providing technical support and coverage for other positions in department during absences and vacations.
- The incumbent interacts with employees in the office and plant in conducting engineering projects as required. The incumbent will also work with external contractors in sourcing contractors and regularly monitoring their work on projects.
- This position provides an important support function to the business, providing the engineering technical support and project management of project work in different departments.
SPECIAL FACTORS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position is required on occasion to work additional hours beyond the normal business day in order to meet the project milestones and deadlines as required.
TRAVEL
Travel may be required for this position to visit contractors or other sites for training.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works within an office and plant environment while conducting projects in the plant.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The incumbent may be required to sit for long periods of time while performing work on a computer at a desk. Use of standard office equipment is required.
The incumbent may be required to visit various departments in the plant to conduct project work in those departments and escort contractors as needed.
POSITION SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5-10 years’ related experience; working in a similar role in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- P. Eng. designation an asset.
- Experience with Pumps, controls, procedure writing, training, tool design and fabrication.
- PLC experience preferred.
- Candidate should be familiar with general unit operations (heaters, heat, exchangers, filters, grinders, screeners, valves etc.).
- Experience working in and around molten metal would be an asset.
- Familiarity with the use of tools and general testing equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office with superior skills in Excel (2013). Familiarity with Microsoft Project an asset. Strong internet research skills.
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of people.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to organize & coordinate and work well with others.
- Strong numeracy skills; capable of creating spreadsheets; managing budgets and tracking costs.
- Some working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Lean Office practices an asset.
- Ability to design and develop layout drawings, P&ID’s, and process flow diagrams.
- Must be able to conduct outside job site visits as required.

- Possess strong functional and technical knowledge to perform required tasks at a high level of proficiency and accuracy.
- Good communication skills with a customer service approach to dealing with people.
- Ability to work in a team environment supporting team members with a positive attitude and willingness to provide assistance.
- Demonstrates high ethical standards with honesty and integrity in upholding the requirements of the position;
