The LRT Expansion & Renewal Branch helps to build a great city by delivering LRT infrastructure. The Branch is guided by and aligned with Council’s strategic goals, The City Plan, and numerous other Council approved policies and initiatives.
The direction set by these strategic plans, priorities, and policies have culminated in a commitment to create a compact and more integrated urban environment, Establish an integrated mass transit network that connects people to destinations. In contribution to this vision, the LRT Expansion & Renewal Branch is currently overseeing approximately $6 billion in LRT expansion projects.
Would you like to be a key contributor for transformational projects that will shape mass transit services to Edmontonians? We are currently hiring for the position of Project Manager. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Project Manager will provide specialized engineering expertise and management to various civil scopes for new and existing LRT infrastructures which includes roadways, drainage, landscaping, LRT stops and stations, maintenance facilities, bridges, tunnels and underpasses.
With a focus on the City of Edmonton’s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Lead and manage LRT related projects, which include guiding and coordinating the work of consultants and contractors and manage, monitor and report on progress and project health through detailed plans and schedules, ensuring the projects are on budget, on schedule, within the defined scope and quality, and in accordance with Project Management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements
- Manage the procurement and contract processes, including request for proposal documents, review of proposals and recommendations for acceptance
- Operate with a high degree of influence and effectiveness, achieved through collaboration and maximizing the contribution of all stakeholders
- Develop and implement communication plans, including project inquiry response, and robust public and stakeholder engagement processes and activities, in collaboration with Communications & Engagement
- Chair and/or participate in liaison and steering committee meetings, site meetings and other project related meetings
- Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of project management processes and practices, including actively participating in the development and documentation of project lessons learned and risk management, demonstrating and accounting for impact to the City and the business partner
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams consisting of consultants, contractors, business partners and stakeholders, including ensuring team members are empowered, have the competencies and are well equipped to succeed in their roles
- Establish, exemplify and hold others accountable to the desired culture and values throughout the project teams that supports the IIS Vision and Mission as well as the Corporate Leadership Principles
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:- Completion of a 4 year degree in a related field such as Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Business or Project Management and a minimum of 6 years directly related experience in project management for infrastructure planning, design and construction
OR
- Completion of a 2 year diploma in a related field such as Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Project Management or Trade Certification and a minimum of 8 years directly related experience in project management for infrastructure planning, design and construction
- Comprehensive understanding of construction processes related to architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and/or landscaping disciplines
- Strong project management skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects
- Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
- Experience developing and implementing public engagement processes
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation, report writing and presenting
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
- Experience managing and working with external consultants
- Ability and willingness to delegate and empower others
- Working knowledge of relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures (OH&S, Environmental, Builders Lien Act, etc.)
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

Up to 1 permanent full-time position
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $45.462 - $58.014 Hourly; $94,924.660 - $121,133.230 Annually
