Working closely with Engineering & Construction Services, Toronto Water, Solid Waste Management Services and other City of Toronto Divisions, Agencies, Boards and Commissions, we are committed to safe and healthy communities, quality service, access for everyone and resilient solutions.Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager, Transit Infrastructure Projects, the Senior Engineer and Senior Project Manager, will be responsible for providing project management, technical expertise including engineering and planning input into addressing complex transportation issues related to the Metrolinx transit projects in the City of Toronto. The positions will function with the following key competencies:Project Management & Team Leadership to assist the Manager in the day-to-day management to support transit infrastructure projects, including budget preparation, development and tracking of key performance indicators and project deadlines; and to manage assigned projects and staff, ensuring effective teamwork, communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance and continuous learning, in addition to recommending and approving Transit Projects Unit deliverables.Technical Knowledge & Analysis to evaluate, report on, and provide analyses related to engineering designs (e.g. cycling and pedestrian facilities design, traffic engineering designs; construction work zone and traffic management designs; structural designs etc.); to research, review and provide technical critique on consultant reports, briefing/technical memos, etc.; to maintain an awareness of developments and advancements in relevant fields; and to provide leading-edge initiatives and workable solutions to the resolution of transit infrastructure issues.Resource Management & Compliance to assess, and report on, project cost estimates submitted by internal and external stakeholders; to manage the work performance of external service providers with respect to quality, timeliness, cost and completion of required tasks; and to ensure work is undertaken in a manner that complies with, and supports, City compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), other relevant codes and regulations and City policies.Relationship Building & Consultation to establish and foster effective partnerships with other City divisions and intergovernmental colleagues; to liaise with, and coordinate input from, Division staff and stakeholders in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure projects, and to prepare and deliver presentations, orally and in written format, representing the Transportation Services Division at a variety of forums (e.g. internal stakeholder meetings, elected officials, external stakeholder councils, agencies and committees, and the media).Who is our ideal candidate?You are someone who demonstrates leadership in project management and stakeholder engagement, bringing a high degree of conceptual ability and strategic thinking to develop creative solutions to complex issues. You also have knowledge of relevant policies, government legislation, and regulations, including Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Ontario Traffic Manual, ITE Manual, TAC Roadway Design Guidelines, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.As a leader focused on championing a culture of equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces, you support excellence in public service and promote the best interests of the City of Toronto.You foster an organizational culture that emphasizes innovation, collaboration, transparency, accountability and trust while promoting a strong code of ethics and integrity to support public service excellence.Key Qualifications:Among the other strengths you bring to the role of Senior Engineer/Senior Project Manager will be the following key qualifications:Completion of post-secondary education degree or diploma in civil and/or municipal engineering, project management, planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Extensive experience in managing/leading complex multidisciplinary projects in Transportation Planning or Engineering, Infrastructure Planning or Design, and construction, while communicating with a diverse group of stakeholders.Extensive project management experience from inception to implementation delivering projects, activities and assignments with minimal direction while balancing political, community and other stakeholder interests.To be eligible for Senior Engineer positions, registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or licensing as a professional engineer in good standing in another Canadian engineering association with the ability to obtain a P.Eng. licence with PEO.The City of Toronto's Workplace Modernization Program is re-imagining how we work in our workplace.
