Your Role at GEI.
A full-time senior ecologist position with the Canada branch of GEI that will focus on the environmental approvals process for a range of industries, including land development, linear infrastructure and resource extraction, among others. This position will involve leadership and management of projects including coordination and production of deliverables, coordinating fieldwork, liaising with clients and stakeholders, and project management duties including invoicing, budget and timeline tracking. The ideal candidate will be located within an hour of project locations in Southern Ontario, based out of one of our 3 office locations: Barrie, Markham or Kitchener in a hybrid working arrangement.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Manage consulting projects including budget and timeline tracking
- Collate information from various sources, including communications with agencies and stakeholders, to design and implement field programs to assess Species at Risk (SAR), significant natural heritage features, and other environmental considerations
- Familiarity with standard field methods for ecological surveys
- Assist in the identification and pursuit of new business opportunities
- Work with other technical staff and project managers to develop natural heritage assessments, inventories and impact assessments, as well as to prepare technical correspondence, Endangered Species Act permitting and registrations, and project reports
- Collaborate with other GEI disciplines to deliver multi-disciplinary projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree(s) in biology, ecology, environmental science or related discipline
- 10+ years environmental consulting experience
- Experience managing projects and clients in the environmental consulting industry
- Ability to interpret and critically assess information in terms of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines
- Familiarity with standard ecological field inventory and evaluation methods
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization and time management skills
- Valid driver s license is required
