SaskPower’s Generation Project Delivery Office (PDO) department is responsible for the implementation of capital projects within the Generation Business Unit. This department directly administers infrastructure projects associated with capital upgrades, decommissioning and greenfield development of power generating facilities. As a Project Manager in SaskPower’s Generation PDO you will be accountable to provide hands on leadership of capital projects in alignment with SaskPower’s policies and procedures. The Project Manager is responsible for the effective utilization of project resources in order to manage, coordinate and lead major projects throughout the entire project lifecycle; ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
- Provide effective leadership to the project team in order to define project requirements and develop and maintain project deliverables within all knowledge areas (scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, etc.) for effective delivery of projects.
- Manage and resolve any project risks or issues and execute change control as necessary ensuring that project deliverables are completed within baseline budget and schedule and are in compliance with SaskPower policies and procedures .
- Oversee the preparation of contract proposals and provide contract administration throughout the project life cycle to ensure contractor compliance with agreements.
- Monitor project critical paths and trends, identify delay factors, and lead the development, presentation and approval of schedule recovery plans.
- Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower's operational environment.
- Develop and implement appropriate quality, change management and communication strategies
- Anticipate, assess and manage project risks during execution
- Assess, develop and implement new technologies, standards, processes and methodologies
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure necessary and qualified personnel are assigned to projects
- Represent SaskPower on matters both internal and external to the corporation
- Manage and report on project metrics including progress, earned value, baseline, costs, and scope.
- Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients, senior management and executive staff
- Ensure project plans and activities are implemented in accordance with applicable technical, environmental and safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Provide and demonstrate leadership, team building and direction to project personnel including SaskPower and Contractor employees
- Other related duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a related field AND/OR;- Related professional designation(s) and/or certification(s) (PMP, Prince2)
- 7-10 Years of related experience
- Ability to strategize, plan and organize
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to influence and manage complex and confidential projects/issues with sensitivity and professionalism
- Ability to meet deadlines and deal with quick turnarounds
- Ability to manage tasks and direction effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong team leader with the ability to influence the performance of others
- Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork
- Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s competencies
- Must have a continuing record of professional development
