Job Description
Reporting to the Site Manager, BC Sites and cooperating with the Teck Legacy project controls and contracts team, the Project Lead, BC Sites participates in and coordinates site contract management, field activities and projects related to reclamation and closure at a selection of Teck Legacy Properties (closed mines). The individual in this role would be responsible for health and safety, contract management, management of consultants, oversight of field personnel and contractors, schedule, scope control, budget and cost control, quality control/assurance, and much more!

- Support the BC Sites team with the stewardship of several sites within the Legacy Properties portfolio to include, but not limited to, planning, engineering and environmental studies, construction activities, and site maintenance
- Provide project management and technical subject matter support as needed
- Manage the planning and execution of site stewardship projects, including prioritizing, scheduling, tracking risks and opportunities, cost and resourcing requirements, and site/field communications
- Cooperate with internal domain experts and lead all aspects of and support field data collection in accordance with scopes of work
- Participate in the preparation, evaluation, and award of contracts, including preparation of scopes of work, requests for proposals, schedules, cost estimates and qualified bidder lists
- Support and develop, in close cooperation with technical leads, the review of project feasibility, scopes, design criteria, studies, and constructability
- Participate in public engagement events (e.g., open houses, information sessions, meetings) that relate to assigned projects or programs
- Provide contractor management and oversight of external consultant and contractor teams
- Coordinate with government regulators, stakeholders, Indigenous Communities, and the public in a professional manner
- Manage and coordinate contractor resources and ensure permits, contractor inductions, required construction environmental management plans (CEMP) and safe work plans are in place before work commences
- Supervise field programs to ensure safe work practices, environmental best management practices, and work performed meets specified requirements, including documenting observations and deficiencies, and ensuring appropriate action is taken
- Confirm management of contracts and change control processes are carried out following Teck procedures.
- Provide mentorship to business development and collaborate with other staff members for the continued expansion of our Legacy Properties team
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including owner’s schedules, project charters, organization charts, project reports and project readiness assessments
- Confirm project files are managed and stored aligning with document control procedures, files are archived accordingly, and the project is closed out
- Complete lessons learned sessions at end of projects
- Travel for site field oversight expected to be approximately 50%
- Engineering or Science degree in Environment, Geography/Geology, Mining, Geotechnical, Civil, or other related field
- Minimum five years demonstrated ability in project management in a water management, mining, infrastructure, geotechnical, environmental, or mechanical engineering field
- Professional designation, such as RPF, RPBio, PAg, PEng, or PGeo, would be an asset
- PMP designation is an asset
- Experience with environmental legislation, industry standards and permitting processes in Canada, other jurisdictions is an asset
- Working understanding of the effects of mining on the environment and practical knowledge of mitigation process’ and environmental management standard methodologies
- Knowledge of current standard processes in mine reclamation and closure practices is an asset
- Experience with workshop facilitation and engagement with Indigenous communities is an asset
- Able to multitask, set appropriate priorities and consistently meet and exceed set deadlines
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite® and SharePoint is crucial
- Willingness to travel, passport or ability to acquire a passport
- Holds a valid driver’s license
- Experience working on mine sites or other large industrial facilities, in close proximity to heavy equipment and a varying degree of contractors (engineering through construction) is crucial
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and strong multi-tasking and outstanding organizational skills
- Strong communications and technical writing skills
- Previous experience in mining-related contaminated sites programs is considered an asset
