Overview of role:
Are you a seasoned, experienced expert in Project and Process Management, Business Analysis and Lean practices with a passion for sharing your experiences and helping to coach and develop other Project Managers, Business Analysts and Lean Experts? Do you have a passion for sharing knowledge about the PMO practices, as well as defining the methodology, templates, standards, and associated quality? The PMO Practice Lead reports to the Director – Transformation Steering. The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for further building the Project and Process Management, Business Analysis and Lean practices at WestJet, within the Project Management Office (PMO), and expanding practice adoption across the WestJet Group. This individual will enable the project and process communities to learn, collaborate and share their expertise across all parts of the company and support colleagues in performing their tasks by providing methodology, tools and guidance. The PMO Practices Lead will coach and mentor to support and further develop the core PMO competencies to ensure quality execution of methodologies and supporting WestJet’s overall success. This role acts as process owner for PMO practices for the WestJet Group.
Note: This role does not have direct reports but is regarded as a functional leadership position
Key deliverables include:
- Work with Senior Managers to identify gaps in core PMO competencies, creating and delivering training and support which aids Project and Process Managers, Business Analysts and Lean Experts in furthering their skills
- Work with project stakeholders to solicit feedback on performance
- Host collaboration and peer learning formats for the Project and Process communities to facilitate best practice & standards adoption
- Be accountable for the Project and Process Management processes for the company and act as single point of contact regarding standards and best practices
- Create and deliver training and support that boosts core competencies and helps drive performance improvements
- Facilitate a community of best practice to drive improvements to core skills and share lessons learned
- Provide support to Project and Process Managers, Business Analysts and Lean Experts that need specific coaching and help in the core competencies
- Work with the Senior Managers to help design specific action plans for team and individuals’ success
- Provide Sponsor trainings for upper Management to support effective and efficient project execution and process improvement on all levels of the organization
- Leverage best practices in Project and Process Management of other industries (e.g. oil and gas, transportation) to WestJet
- Support cultural change along the journey to become a mor project and process oriented organization
- Upon rolling out templates, standards, and best practices, revisit these items consistently, with a focus on redefining them to ensure continued alignment to purpose and need
Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- Master degree or comparable in Business/Economics or Engineering, MBA
- Experience in training and facilitation
- 10+ years in a Project or Process Manager or Business Analyst role with an increasing scale of complexity and responsibility
- Wide depth and breadth of knowledge in the domain; demonstrable experience in the knowledge
- Demonstrable experience applying a wide variety of tools and techniques to meet the specifics of the situation
- Ability to identify and help resolve systemic issues
- Ability to succeed even when given ambiguous, unclear or inconsistent information
- Strong ability to develop both entry-level and advanced-level learning materials for a variety of audiences
- Experience in design and development of course materials to support learning
- Experience in interacting with upper Management including C-Level
- Ability to operate at both the strategic and functional level to ensure that the team is able to achieve day to day deliverables and also focus on the larger picture and key outcomes
- Ability to coach and mentor both at the peer level and with less experienced team members
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel.
- Extensive negotiation experience and skills in an environment with high competition for resources
- Displays high emotional intelligence. Empathetic and able to vary own style of interaction to match the needs of a variety of stakeholders, audiences, personalities and temperaments
- Strong leadership skills: ability to motivate and challenge resource in an informal environment (resources don’t report to you)
- Strong presentation skills – can clearly articulate their ideas to a wide variety of audiences and keep them engaged
- A history of demonstrating good decision making, unbiased and neutral
- Demonstrated ability to know when to escalate vs resolve conflict
- Possesses a high degree of political sensitivity, astuteness and the ability to effectively use the informal power structure to achieve success and clear obstacles
