Job Description
The After-Hours Mobile Crisis Counsellor will respond to the mental health needs of children, youth, and families who are in crisis. The After-Hours Mobile Crisis Counsellor will respond by telephone, complete risk assessments with clients, and provide in the moment intervention to help clients become effective at managing current and future crises. In addition, the After-Hours Mobile Crisis Counsellor will help the client strengthen their informal and formal networks of support.
Please note that this is a casual, contract position, with a planned end date of March 31, 2024.
Please note the salary for this position is $31.56/hour with a stipend of $60 for every 16 hours on-call, and $100 stipend for every 24 hours on-call.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responding to crisis calls by phone. Cover after-hours shifts as scheduled on weekdays and
- Utilize the CALOCUS assessment tool to support decision making for the level of care that families require (i.e. referral, education, walk-in treatment, or crisis planning).
- Consult with ROCK’s on-call Clinical Manager as needed/required.
- Report to the Children’s Aid Society, as
- Communicate with EMS Services to support safety planning and client wellbeing, as required.
- Complete Serious Occurrence Reports, as per Ministry
- Complete client registration for new clients, documentation for crisis line calls, and documentation specific to CAS
- Complete all administrative tasks in a timely fashion as required, for both client and organizational
- Make internal referrals to daytime Crisis staff to schedule follow-up crisis sessions as needed.
- Make recommendations/referrals to external community resources as appropriate and based on the needs of the
- Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety
- Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Graduate from a recognized university Honours program (Bachelor of Social Work preferred) or a community college program in the school of Child and Youth Work, relating to the specific population to be
Experience:
- Experienced in the field of children's mental
- Evidence of a theoretical framework that guides the candidate’s work, is compatible with the agency's approach, and reflects an understanding of crisis theory.
- Relevant training in brief collaborative, competency-based approaches, such as narrative and solution focused approaches, attachment theory, and systemic family therapy.
- Awareness of the Halton community and ROCK programs is an
- It would be considered a valuable asset if the applicant has practice or training in
one or more of the following skill areas:
- Providing group treatment OR facilitating parent skills
- Experience with either CBT or
- Experience with suicide prevention and early intervention skills (i.e., ASIST).

- Access to reliable transportation in alignment with program
- Proficient in the use of technology as required of the position, including working in a virtual environment with MAC OS operating systems experience
