Reporting to the Director, Safe and Healthy Communities Section, and participating as a member of the branch extended leadership team, the Manager of Family Violence Prevention is responsible to:
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and supervision to professional social workers and social planners in the delivery of the Domestic Abuse High Risk Team (DAHRT), Senior Protection Partnership (SPP), City Wide Family Violence Prevention and Gender Based Violence Prevention Initiatives
- Oversee and lead complex projects and city wide initiatives related to Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse , Family Violence Prevention, and the Prevention of Gender Based Violence and Sexual Assault initiatives
- Respond to council inquiries and prepare related council reports as requested
- Represent the branch and liaise with key community partners and stakeholders to advance this work
- Analyze police and social data to identify community trends and issues and to inform strategic direction and approach
- Oversee, develop, implement and monitor team budgets, work plans, protocols, and related policies and procedures.
Qualifications:- Completion of a University Degree in Social Work
- A masters degree in Social Work or a related field is considered an asset
- Must have current registration as a social worker in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience working in a social service environment, including professional experience leading and managing others
- Experience providing leadership and supervision to professional staff working to address complex social issues
- Experience in the areas of gender based violence, domestic violence and elder abuse, partnership development, strategy development and involvement in complex multidisciplinary partnerships would be an asset
- Strong skills developing and maintaining effective working relationships with partners and internal and external stakeholders
- Strong leadership, problem solving, project management, conflict resolution, interdisciplinary team building and supervisory skills.
- Ability to think strategically and at a systems level
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presenting information to diverse audiences and writing reports
- Current knowledge of leading practice related to gender based violence, domestic, violence and elder abuse, and knowledge of the police system
- Familiarity with risk assessment tools, family violence protocols and community resources
- Understanding of Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+), social determinants of health, anti-racism, Indigenous equity, and trauma-informed practice is an asset
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Security Clearance from Edmonton Police Service satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. Please note: This process can take up to three weeks
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
