The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
We are recruiting for a Full time, Youth Support Worker for A’mut Place. Located in Surrey, A’mut is a full-time live-in program for adjudicated Indigenous female youth between the ages of 12- to-18 as an alternative to incarceration. Youth support workers manage the day to day living environment and provide culture-based programming that addresses substance use, wellness and mastering new skills for their futures. Staff are supported by an art facilitator, Elder, and community- based resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of youth in the program.
- Act as a positive role model for clients, providing life skills training and behavior management.
- Support youth in achieving and maintaining their goals. Enable youth to address their substance use and personal risk factors.
- Record all activities and interactions with participants.
- Lead daily group activities and participate in case management.
- Maintain day-to-day operations of residence in adherence to Community Care regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in related field plus two (2) years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in bed-based environment with knowledge of issues related to substance use and trauma, or like and similar experience.
- Working knowledge of legislation and policies related to Social Assistance, Mental Health Act and Youth Justice.
- Understanding of the biopsychosocial spiritual model of substance-use, as well as trauma-informed practice.
- Experience working with Indigenous cultures and understanding of culturally safe practices.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- VALID CANADIAN DRIVER'S LICENSE (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record.
- Food Safe Level 1.
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
- Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
