Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing assessments to men and women who are experiencing homelessness and other challenges for admission to the Toronto Harbour Light Transitional Housing program:
· Conduct all pre-admission and admission interviews
· Respond to telephone inquiries in timely and professional manner
· Supervise placement of clients in rooms
· Maintain files of all admissions, inquiries and refusals
· Coordinate calculation and collection of resident rents
· Ensure that clients are adequately oriented to the Harbour Light and its program
· Ensure that the room roster is maintained and updated regularly as required
· Establish and maintain a computerized client information data base
· Liaison with outside agencies
· Annual RGI Training
· Annual RGI Reviews for clients staying into year 2
· Participate in all staff meetings and giving input for improvement of program and operation
· Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor
· Represent the Salvation Army Harbour Light in a professional manner at all times
· Participate in staff development as required
· Undertake other duties as requested by the Program Coordinator, or Director of Client Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions), or Diploma in Social Services field; combination of work experience and education also accepted
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the human services sector preferred
- Experience within the housing sector preferred
- Experience working with homeless individuals and refugee claimants an asset
- Understanding of the continuum of addiction and concurrent disorders
- Knowledge and experience in assessments and case management
- Understanding of trauma and how it relates to substance use and mental health
- Knowledge of cultural competent practices
- Maintain client records / files according to agency standards
- Highly effective and efficient administration skills
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners
· Be in agreement with and willing to support our Mission Statement and program philosophy of Toronto Harbour Light Ministries and the Transitional Housing Program
· Training in First Aid/CPR, NVCI and Client assessments an asset
