JOB SUMMARY
Niagara Region is currently pre-qualifying individuals for Skilled Labourer/Truck Driver opportunities in our Transportation Operations division, Public Works department.
Pre-qualified individuals will be considered for current and future job opportunities as they become available, whether temporary or permanent.
Pay rate: Skilled Labourer positions start at $26.05, and the pay range is $26.05-$27.50. Truck Driver positions start at $30.02, and the pay range is $30.02-$31.73.
Location: Locations vary throughout the Niagara Region, including: Smithville, Pelham, Thorold & Welland
Shifts: This position is subject to overtime, 12-hour shifts and shift rotation, including days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends.

Truck Driver (Winter)
Operates trucks over 11,000 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), including attachments, according to the Highway Traffic Act, Public Commercial Vehicle Act (PCVA.) and Regional guidelines. Installs and removes attachments. When not operating truck performs other duties such as paperwork, housekeeping, and various road maintenance activities.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years in a similar environment.
- Must successfully complete Regional Administered Operator Training/Testing.
- Must possess basic mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic knowledge and skills to operate the above mentioned equipment.
- Must complete W.H.M.I.S training.
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class “DZ” license for the class of the vehicle operated
- Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is an asset.
- It is the employee’s responsibility to possess and maintain a valid and restriction-free driver’s license of appropriate class to carry out the duties of the job.
Skilled Labourer (Summer)
Utilize manual labour, hand tools, power tools and/or small equipment such as a brush chipper and asphalt roller, including ride-on type rollers to assist in various road maintenance activities. Operate vehicles up to 11,000 kg. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) according to the Highway Traffic Act, Public Commercial Vehicle Act (PCVA), and Regional guidelines.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year in a similar environment.
- Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is an asset.
- Must possess a mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic tools and equipment related to road maintenance activities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted class "G" license for the class of the vehicle operated
- Must possess chainsaw and brush chipper certification.
- Must complete WHMIS training.
