Job Description
The truck driver is responsible for operating all commercial vehicles in the fleet in a safe and appropriate manner. The truck driver MUST also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures. This is a teams driving position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.
- Subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing and regulations
- Obey all traffic laws, including but not limited to: driving within posted speed limits, stops signs and right of way
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way per all relevant legislations, policies and procedures
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections — assuring the safety of the vehicle
- MUST attend safety meetings
- Clean trucks as scheduled and/or required
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel or radiator coolant
- Ensure trucks and equipment are safely and securely stored
- Advise Supervisors of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Participate in routine maintenance
- Ensure appropriate paperwork accompanies shipments
- Maintain professional representation of the Company in all interactions with all suppliers, shippers, receivers and through responsible driving.
- Maintain records required for compliance with provincial, state and federal regulations, including driver’s logs, records of fuel purchases, mileage records and other records required by law and Company policy.
- Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance

QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class A / CDL driver’s license
- Air brake endorsement
- MUST be proficient on 13 speed transmissions
- Clean driving record and CVOR
- MUST be able to LEGALLY cross borders
- Ability to start, control and maintain a complete process or procedure, while keeping safety and compliance at the forefront
- Possess working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
- Ability to work in team drivers environment
- Ability to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
- Successful completion of DOT Physical exam, drug and alcohol screening and background checks
- Ability to apply knowledge of commercial driving skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading areas
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The truck driver has a physically demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects. The driver must work in all weather and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. He/she must ensure all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way by wearing all proper PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
MENTAL DEMANDS
The truck driver must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule of pick ups and deliveries. Any problems or inconveniencies may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time
