Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an individual wanting to join a Finance team. Are you ready to be our Accounting Team Lead and make an impact in our community?
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Accounting Team Lead is a key member of the Finance team, whose scope of responsibilities primarily is to manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable function of the Agency, support with the completion of month and year end, support the Finance team by developing processes and controls to improve efficiency and security, and to collaborate with program staff and leadership to support them in their needs and learning. If candidate is interested, Bissell Centre is willing to support this team member through their CPA designation by providing relevant experience and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Management
- Supervise, train, and coach Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Accountants. Act as back-up coverage when these staff are on vacation or leave.
- Review data in accounts payable and accounts receivable entries to ensure accuracy and internal controls are followed.
- Manage Bissell Centre Credit Card program inclusive of processing applications and cancellations, adjusting credit limits, maintaining agreements, and leading the claim process.
Month & Year End Responsibilities
- Prepare working papers and month end duties such as bank reconciliations, donation reconciliations, adjustments to assets and liabilities for the Manager, Accounting to review and post.
- Review and post month-end sections prepared by the Accountants.
- Assist with year-end reconciliations, review, and support the Manager, Accounting with the annual audit.
- Participate in annual budget process and complete monthly variance analysis.
Other Responsibilities
- Prepare high level weekly cash flow forecasting and propose transfers to the operating bank account to cover upcoming expenditures.
- Assess and make recommendations to add or improve internal controls, financial policies, procedures, software and systems.
- Create and improve processes using a process improvement philosophy, such as Six Sigma.
- Maintain the Accounting web page on the Bissell intranet site.
- Exercise independent thought and judgement over resolution of non-routine accounting problems.
- Liaise with several external partners and vendors, including the bank institution representative to submit change requests.
- Generate reports and analysis as requested.
- Provides customer service in a professional manner for inquiries (internal and external) with accounting related responsibilities.
- Other duties and projects as requested by Finance leadership.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
- Diploma or Degree in Finance or Accounting
- Three to five years of relevant experience, including full cycle accounting, A/P, A/R, and month end close
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Experience with Sage 300 and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, specifically Excel
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively
- Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to build relationships and trust quickly
- High level of professionalism with strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent critical thinking capabilities to troubleshoot and resolve conflicts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Software Usage Proficiency: Intermediate Microsoft Office capability, specifically Excel and Outlook.
- Sector Knowledge an Asset:Familiarity with issues of poverty and Edmonton’s urban core and knowledge of relevant community and government resources.
- Professionalism: Ability to portray a superior level of professionalism and adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality.

Conditions of Work
- Flexibility of the working day is inherent in the position. Hybrid work model can be discussed; however, a number of the responsibilities must be done onsite to ensure financial controls are met and to supervise direct reports.
- Use of personal vehicle will be required; however, mileage will be paid on work related use.
- Community Safety Walk participate is a Bissell wide procedure that all positions take part in.
