Job Description
Under the general direction of the Manager, Accounting, the Senior Accounting Associate supports a wide variety of functions which include transactional processing, financial analysis, working paper and financial statement preparation, monthly reconciliations, annual audit support and the implementation of financial and compliance controls. The Senior Accounting Associate serves as a key resource for the organization and provides daily financial oversight to ensure that the financial records are complete, accurate and comply with generally accepted accounting principles, policies and regulations, to facilitate solid decision support.
The Senior Accounting Associate serves as a subject matter expert to support work/project teams, and committees, providing individual consultation, technical assistance, and training to finance staff in order to improve efficiencies and explain best practices.
Primary Position Outcomes:
Accounting for Foundation:
- Accounts for the daily operations of the Foundation including all manual and on-line donations, bank reconciliations, tax receipting and donor reporting information.
- Prepares the intercompany entries, reconciliations and reports, including the monthly Raisers Edge and Unit 4 Business reconciliation.
- Ensures gift-in-kind donations are properly recorded and tax receipted.
- Produces internal and PSAB financial statements for the Foundation.
Accounting for Investments and Other Accounts:
- Processes the monthly investment portfolio activity for both the University and Foundation, including monthly posting, analysis and reporting.
- Produces other accruals, account reconciliations, and monthly, quarterly and year end working papers as assigned and review working papers prepared by other staff members as required.
Banking and Treasury Management
- Oversees cash management process - performs short-term cash forecasting; identifies the sources and uses of cash; and prepares treasury reports including weekly and monthly cash positions
- Analyzes bank interest income, charges and fees; identifies and resolves discrepancies; and reviews bank reconciliations
- Ensures compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures in day-to-day conduct of cash management and treasury activities
- Performs various other treasury functions as requested
Job Requirements- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA) and a post-secondary degree or an equivalent level combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years accounting experience, with increasing levels of administrative and operational responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Demonstrated financial abilities, in accounting functions, cash management and variance analysis.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to recommend solutions for complex issues, inquiries and problems.
Additional InformationThis is a temporary, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week for a term from August 2023 until October 2024. This position has been evaluated at MPT-C with a salary range of $74,204 (minimum) to $87,204 (midpoint) to $100,203 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
