What’s the role?
Reporting to the Third-Party Party Finance Supervisor, the Senior Accounting Technician provides support to the finance team with respect to work distribution, escalations, complex inquiries, staff training and technical assistance. The Senior is also responsible for certain financial tasks for the department clientele. To support the team, the incumbent is expected to gain a thorough understanding of the in-house billing and accounting system. The role is also responsible for various month-end accounting entries and reconciliations.
- Conduct periodic reviews of the Accounting Technicians’ daily tasks to ensure accuracy
- Provide training and technical assistance to new Accounting Technicians
- Address any issues, questions, and problems in an accurate and timely manner and support the team with the resolution of escalations
- Interact with clients and other internal and external stakeholders to resolve their issues
- Assist with the onboarding of new client implementations
- Participate in various special projects as needed
- Prepare various financial reports, analysis, and reconciliations
- Maintain clear and concise documentation of the processes related to financial tasks
- Provide recommendations of ways to improve internal controls and processes within the finance team
- Act as a role model for other team members by demonstrating Cowan values
What does it take?
- Post-secondary education completed
- Strong initiative, planning, and problem-solving skills, including an ability to focus on both details and personal and team results
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Excellent coaching and training skills and can adapt to multiple ways of teaching
- The ability to handle issues professionally and excel under pressure
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and orally
- Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills
- Comfortable dealing with customers and company personnel at various levels
